clutch fork wont move HELP ME PLEASE

so i got my part today and i was excited after work and put it in but this is the problem i have. i put the adjuster back on and hook it in, try and pull the clutch by hand ( clutch fork ) with the cable to put the cable back in the mount and the fork will not move. now is it very difficult to move these by hand. and to give you perspective im laying on the snow put my foot on front tire and pull and still cant pull it back... now if there is something broken inside the clutch any ideas on what this could be could the clutch fork have slipped past something? o and i have a 66 with the dauntless v6 someone please help any info is appreciated. chainsawguy

There has to be a slight amount of movement with the fork. The TO bearing should not be against the press plate all the time. Is there any free movement with the fork. If not then something is wrong..

 

Like Walt said, there should be some wiggle room. But unless you have 22" biceps and a solid brace you're probably not going to move the pressure plate.:v6:

 

ok so i know there is a little bit of wiggle room i did confirm this..so this makes me a bit happier to know i cannnot move this by hand ex wifes bf said also to run the jeep and let it warm up then try and move it. especially since its been below 0 for the bast 5 days here

 

any ideas on how to get the cable back to where it is supposed to be? should i be attaching it to the fork first and then the pedal ? anyone done this before? on an OF engine

its pretty much at the end of the adjustment it might be on there an inch or less, not exactly shure too dark to measure at this point. will try it tommorow tho thank you.

 

jeep is fixed and back on the road. for any one that ever runs into this problem, you need to take a pry bar and pry the fork back off of the brake master cyl.. and put the cable end up in the notch and bam there it is. thnak you everyone for your help, especially alex who sent me the part two day mail before i even sent a check.

Don't forget to adjust your peddle free-play or it will ruin your through-out bearing.

 

walt do i do that just by the feel of the foot? i put the adjustment piece back where it was before ...i left the stop nut on the cable ...

 

Your clutch peddle should push in real easy for the first inch to one and a half inch before hitting the harder clutch resistance. What you feel in the beginning is the hold back spring that pulls the peddle all the way back to the top. The purpose for the spring return and the 1-1/2" free-play is to pull the through-out bearing away from the pressure plate so as not to wear out the bearing.

Yeah, loosen the ajuster all the way. I had to do this on my 69. you are not going to move the fork by hand, I tried everything. I loosened up the ajuster all the way and still needed to move the fork alittle. I had to use a pry bar to move it. only needed about 1/2 inch after loosening the ajuster. then you have to reajust it. try that, bet you have some luck..
