Decided to burn up some scrap and build a target stand. This is set up so it comes apart in less than a minute. The swinging targets and uprights come out of the base for space or transport. I can use wooden upright stakes in the base to staple paper/cardboard targets to. Haven't tried it out yet. I have a couple of supports that also bolt on and go to the rear to help stabilize it. They just use wing nuts as do the pivots the targets swing from. I'm in the whole thing about $30 or so. Most of it was scrap I had laying around but I did have to buy some paint and the metal tube for the uprights. The 7/16" wing nuts were stupid expensive. The round tube the pivots go through are actually old ross steering column shaft cut down. Jeep parts even in my targets!

That's great. What thickness did you use for the targets? Is that all-thread the targets are swinging from? Hmmmmm, I've got a lot of scrap taking up space at my shop...........oh, wait, I've got a Jeep to put back together first. :)

Very nice.. I'm afraid I'd be tempted to loosen the wing nuts.... From 50 yards or so..:D

I built a (crude) hanger to hang old brake rotors from for targets...I've got probably a dozen pairs of old rotors again- must be time to go shooting..:)

    Thanks guys.
Yup, 7/16" threaded rod. I double nutted on each side of each target so I could adjust the friction. I can tighten them up so they barely swing or adjust them so they swing free. The two middle targets are about 1/2" thick. I actually doubled them up and welded the outside so they are kind of laminated. The others are about 3/8" thick. We'll see how they hold up. Wish I had some AR-500 armor plate to make them out of but they were pre-cut and free:D These will mostly be for pistol but ya know I'll have to try out the AK or SKS on them:twisted:

Well, I have an ACOG clone scope I just got for the SKS so maybe I'll try that too....

You don't need a scope on an SKS to hit a wing nut at 50yds.;)

When you're as blind as I am you do:D

Too many flash burns and head trauma's over the years have taken their toll...
I'm sure the head trauma part explains a lot :D

Not sure I could do it, but the SKS is pretty darn accurate with iron sights..:)

had a scope on one of my sks's

Went through some pistol training a couple months ago. At the end of the day we had a friendly competition shooting a spent 9mm shell shoved into a target (base facing us). You were allowed 30 rounds total. We started at 5 yards and worked our way back until we ran out of ammo. You hit the shell, you stopped and moved back another 5 yards and let the other folks shoot until they hit the target or ran out of ammo. A couple of guys (with better sight) made it to 30 yards with short ccw pistols. I made it to 25 yards with the P-85 and splattered that sucker (ever seen a fmj 9mm hit the base of a 9mm aluminum case?) then ran out of ammo. When I hit 25 yards with iron sights, in the rain, overcast, shooting from a darkened shed, I was darn near blind. I actually had to put my glasses on at this point:(. This was after about 8 hours of exhaustive shooting and training.
I've never shot with a scope. Looking forward to trying it with the SKS.
The AK=47 and SKS are pretty accurate with iron sights but the SKS is tac'd out with a bipod and really want to try it with a scope from longer range. I can "see" at longer range but things are too fuzzy to really be accurate.
One of these days I'll have the rest of the parts I need to put the AR-15 together and really have some fun....chainsawguy

It'll be fun. I put a 17 dollar Wal Mart scope on my 10-22. It's really accurate, and a lot of fun..:)

That's very cool! I've got some .30-06 a/p we can try out on it!

I'm not that amibitous, I made my frame out of wood. Just use cardboard and paper targets. Hey, it's cheap, stable and portable! The frame and base are two separate pieces.

Cool Ron! Looks like the same basic idea just a different build.

I think the a/p would blow right through these but would be fun!

Um, yeah...probably so. This is a tie plate that RR track sits on and is spiked to the wooden ties with. Beat the snot out of it with my M1.
