ok dad and i were well not working on the jeep but looking (with the wedding coming up thats all we can do). well we noticed the intake does not have ports for a heater. this is an intake off a boat so i guess it was not ever built for a heater. so any ideas for how i can get some heat in my jeep, other then heated bucket seats.

hmm well we got a mineshaft nearby. and i got a few lumps of the stuff sitting in my room ( as a way for me to remember where i came from)

good idea but i think starting it every morning would become a chore

Are the bosses not there for the heater hoses to be tapped, I find it strange that the the bosses aren't there. If they are just drill and tap the bosses to accept the pipe fittings for the hoses.

If you have enough holes in the firewall, the engine heat keeps you warm.

that might work except when it get cold here in richmond i will be mostly driving around downtown so i wont be going fast enough to get airflow.

the idea of one port in the head one in the water pump where in there head and pump

i have looked at several 12v heaters, and there are several out there they claim to put out alot of heat. i am thinking about going this route just for an extra heat source. try to look at rv places and boat places, they have alot of 12v heater options

im not sure about the 12 volt heaters because i dont want to draw too many amps. also im not sure if they are considered legal in VA.

Why not just change intakes??? What engine do you have?

chevy 3.8L the problem is finding an intake for the motor. trust me it took 3 months of looking. all we could find was TBI intakes. i dont want to deal with fuel injection yet.

they are legal in all 50 states, and i think the biggest one i saw was only drawing 20 amps or so, most of them were running much less than that

I tried the electric heater idea. I got one of the more expensive (higher output) electrics and it really did not do the job - even at warm temperatures like 10 or 15 degrees above zero.

I think a large electric heater puts out way less heat than a conventional hot water heater coil.

And, the electric didn't help with defrosting the windshield. It is better than nothing.

akcj it is rare for richmond to get down to below 10* above 0. last winter we had i think 7 or 8 mornings where it was between 4* and 8*. the defroster is the key for me though, i run mine almost all the time even in the summer just to keep my windshield clear on the neon. so i guess electric is out. hmm i had an idea but i cant find something to do it. why not a T fitting in the rad hoses?

ok so we feel dumb. after bringing the intake inside we noticed a port almost under the carb. the first pic of of that. the second pic is of somekind of port that neither of us can identify.

That second photo would be your outlet port to the heater core. The first photo is an EGR block off plate. You should also have a port somewhere on the water pump or water pump housing that you will use as your suction port from the heater core.
