injected V6 in a flatfender?

    I was under the impression that you could fit an injected chevy V6 in a flat fender.
    I found one to put in...but I was reading on Novak that they don't fit.

    The V6's reasonably compact form and lighter weight make it perfect for many CJ's, Wranglers and even the heavier Jeep truck applications. However, it should be noted that the V6 in its injected forms it typically too tall for low-hood Jeeps, such as the pre-CJ3B Universals. As a general rule, if the Jeep would allow for an F-head to fit, the 4.3L will fit nicely.

    The trick is to put a body lift on when you do it and be very careful about engine placement. Custom mounts help with that. It's funny, the Buick Mounts from Novak would help with the fitment as well.

    The body lift works wonders, even on a high hood. You can pretty much put what ever lift you want on it by just purchasing some urethane rod material (McMaster-Carr is a very good source) and making your own bushings. It will give you additional clearence for a larger radiator also.

    Here is another option for installing a V6 into a flat fender. This 1945 GPW has a Chevy MPFI V6. Not qute complete yet. I am working on the electrical which shouldn't take to much longer I hope.

    My goals were to install the V6 without major modifications to the jeep body. As it turned out, the only body change was the removal of the fuel tank pocket below the drivers seat in the floor so that there would room for the drivers side exhaust. I ultimately built and relocated the tank behind the rear axle. As you can see, the install did not require a body lift or cutting of the hood.

    That looks nice - I am just not sure I am engine electronicly inclined enought to figure out what would be needed for MPFI. Did you get the computer with it, and will it work for the jeep?

    Thanks. Yes I got the computer with the motor but have decided not to use it. I will be using MegaSquirts-II

    That is a great looking install. What trans and Xfer case are you going to be running?

    At this time, I have a Dana 300 transfercase and the proverbial dreaded BW T5 transmission. There are other transmission options but at the moment, I have the transmission, it helped simplify the install and I didn't take the time to locate another bell housing and transmission. Rock crawling is not in my future and I do want to get this thing back on the road.

    What engine is that and what year? I am looking at a 92ish CPI for my next '5.

    The engine is a Chevy 2.8L 60*V6 out of a '89 Camaro. It was chosen for several reasons but primarily because it fit without major modifications to the Jeep. As you can see, I didn't have to cut anything and I didn't want to do a body lift. The only thing I can not get under the hood is the battery. I will be moving it to the right rear corner just behind the rear tire. I will have to modify the storage compartment to accept the battery.

    If I find this stock 140hp motor lacking in power, I will upgrade to a 3.4L 60*V6 with factory aluminum heads and intake which will produce about 180hp. That should more than ample for this little Jeep and how I intent to use it.

    Let us know how that 60* V-6 works. I don't think I've seen one in a 2A or 3A before.

    I will but it will be awhile before I get this thing done. Have yet to order and build the MS-II ECM. More importantly though, elk season is about to begin and then a trip to Las Vegas.

    I just got back from muzzleloading elk here in Colo. No luck plus I lost the D18 in my 2A which then did in my OD. Oh well, Herm and I need something to do this winter.

    After a number of delays I fired up the jeep today. As I said earlier, I am using Megesquirt-II to control both fuel and ignition on the MPFI 60*v6. Still have a bunch of tuning to do but, IT'S alive again after more years than I care to remember :).
