Help, need ideas

Have a 53 cj3a, been a long time project. Most of my problem is I have no seats and no pedals. My question is, what is the easiest and cheapest route for seats and pedals.

 

I think we need more info as to the pedal prob...
Pictures are good for us that are confused.

 

Guess allot depends on if you want to keep it original or not. Seats are easy at any junkyard.

Yes, seats are easy, though I expect for a CJ-3A if you don't have seats, you don't have seat brackets either.

IMO the easiest route will be to put the factory components back. Try advertising here in the classifieds or at the Willystech parts board http://www.willystech.com/parts/board.shtml if you want the factory parts.

If you don't use the factory seats, you'll have to fab the brackets somehow. I believe for that old a Jeep, the seats and brackets are all one assembly.

Depending on how good you are, you can adapt hanging pedals from a junked car. Then the master cylinder will be on the firewall. Just go to the junk yard and look around for a suitable donor. You'll then need to use a hydraulic clutch (another hyraulic cylinder on the firewall) or figure out some kind of cable or mechanical linkage.

Accelerator pedal can be approached similarly. Lots of cars use a suspended accelerator pedal that pulls on a cable. Again, prowl the junk yard for inspiration.

In a nutshell, all i have is the go pedal. And nada for the seats, cause arnt cj3a seats, all one, brackets and seat frame. Just looking for the cheapest and easiest route for the pedals, what fits. Was looking at the tilton or wilwood stuff but thats alot of $$$ i dont have.

 

I should have the brake and clutch pedal , I went to hanging pedals.

I see seats posted on Craigslist here in Phoenix, AZ all the time. Try that.

 

The pedal assembly out of an early 70's Datsun/Nissan pickup is a good fit. Had them in my 3A. Get the clutch master and line for a 4 cylinder CJ7 and the brake master from a 240 or 260Z. I ran some sort of after market slave. It worked really well.

 

I made stock-looking seat brackets from an old tubular lawnmower handle. All you need is some patience, imagination, and a vice and hammer. I know it sounds silly, but it does work well.

The bends in the handle were in the right spots for the jeep to match the stock mounting locations. One handle did both sides.
