I'm still waiting for the transport company to drop off "Lil' Rusty Red". It is somewhere between Washington state and Tennessee. I have decided to start a blog and try to chronicle the whole restoration.

    http://jeep-jitsu.blogspot.com/

I was largely inspired by Michael Boyink's SuperSize Dutch blog. It really gave me alot of insight to what is possible and helped motivate me to get started. I strongly encourage anyone who has not seen his blog to go and read it, especially of you are a fan of the CJ-6. If I can do half as good a job as he has done, I will be happy ( the blog as well as the CJ-6 ). Heck, if I can inspire one person as I was inspired to find an old Jeep and rescue it, that would be cool too. Hmmm, maybe we should start a endangered species organization and hand out bumper-stickers that say, "SAVE THE JEEPS".R)

Once the Jeep arrives here I will post plenty of pictures to show what kinda work I have ahead of me.

I will update this post regularly as well.

    UPDATE:

Original Owner of Lil' Rusty Red found !

I had alot of papers I found in the glove box (registration and insurance) from 1972 all the way to 2007. It was the same name that is on my title. I did some digging around on the internet and found his phone number.

I called him this evening and he graciously answered my barrage of questions.

He purchased it new in the fall of 1967. He said the Meyers top and the roll bar were installed at the dealership when he bought it.

He added the Warn OD and the small rear gas tank a few years after buying the Jeep and also installed a power inverter and a small air compressor behind the front seat.

The Jeep has an area of bondo on the passenger side and he said it was from a minor accident back in 1974.... this is so cool!!

I asked him if he had any old pictures of the Jeep and he said he did but would have to dig around for them.

I am excited to be able to access all this information about my old Jeep.

I told him I am planning on restoring it and also blogging about it. He gave me his
email address so I can keep in touch with future questions. He said it was neat that someone was going to fix it up.

    See ya soon, Tim D

Good start to the blog, Tim! FWIW, I grew up not far from Kenmore... First "real" job ($3.35/ hr.) was at the Kenmore McDonalds, 28 years ago! I'd be curious if he bought it in Wa, and if so at which dealer.

The original owner purchased it from Milne Jeep Center in Pasadena, CA. He owned it up until the early part of this year. The 2nd owner (who I bought it from) lived in Kenmore.

    Tim,

What a coincidence. I just got my '66 CJ5 shipped to me from Mississippi in November. I am in Washington. I owned a Jeep back in the late 60's early 70's that the PO bought from Milne Jeep Center in Pasadena, CA, at the time I was living in SoCal. My parents owned a 67 Mustang GT, green with racing strip, which I dove to meet girls.

My wife also wanted a Jeep. My plans are to first get the Jeep up and running well enough to be dependable then slow restore it.

I am thinking about starting a blog too. SOJ (SAVE OUR JEEPS)

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

Milne Bros were good folks to do business with ( I think one of the owners names was Jay)
long time old Jeep dealer around here
my family was invited to watch the Rose Parade from their showroom floor one year; I think I was 12-13 years old at the time.
they sold a lot of parts and accesories as well.
maybe one of the first to beat Chuchua with headers for the V6...
    nice find

You should definitely do it. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

The original owner had the roll-bar, hardtop and the Powr-Lok installed at the dealer.
