'66 Fuel Tank

    Hello,
My fuel tank was leaking so I decided it was time to get a new one. I began removing the old tank from under the seat and found that there are two fuel lines. One on the bottom of the tank and one on top that runs directly to the fuel filter. Is this normal?

The tank that I ordered from Kaiser Willys does not appear to have any holes in the top...

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Nathan

It is normal. They did that to keep fuel flowing constantly so as to reduce vapor lock. As time goes by, our fuel is more and more prone to turning into vapor. I had a friend that was working with a FISH carburetor, and it was a real problem. It was a great carb, but modern gasoline played hell with it.

As I have a couple of saddle tanks in my back fenders, I had to plug off the return line back in '66'. It didn't work very well to be drawing fuel from a rear tank and the excess flowing into the seat tank. I had no ill effects from plugging it off. I have an electric pump on my Jeep now, so I don't miss the return line at all.

Thanks for confirming that this is normal. Hopefully the new gas tank is setup for this!

The V6 has a return. The 4 cyl. did not.
Most aftermarket fuel tanks don't facilitate a return line.
I personally replaced mine with a poly tank from MTS, and added a return fitting in the sending unit plate.

Good idea. I suppose I'll do the same - or just not worry about it.

John - you have any pics or info on your saddle tanks? I've never heard of that. In the process of figuring out a viable replacement(s) for the underseat tank in my 60 5.
