1964 CJ5 heater and defrost

Discussion in 'Early Jeep Restoration and Research' started by johnny and sandy, Mar 15, 2009.

  1. Hi everyone!

Jon is trying to find info on the original heater and defrost for his 1964 CJ5. Yes, we did a search. Does anyone out there have pics of the original heater and defrost set up, or can tell us what heater was in the jeep?

I am not sure which assy was installed factory, either the vacuum or manual setup. I put a vacuum setup in my 1960. I bought a NOS vacuum plenum off ebay, the motor and core from this board, and then the heater control assy on eBay as well. The vacuum plenum was a direct bolt on. Someone will know for sure.
Here are a couple pics to get you started.

From a 1960 Operators Manual, so originally was the push/pull manual setup I would think. Mine did have a later body so that may be why the vacuum plenum assy bolted up.

Keep in mind the stock motor is worthless for providing heat to the cab. Someone will chime in who has used a Mojave heater. I just wanted to keep mine fairly stock looking.

My '64 CJ5 is all original and came with the vacuum-operated heater Kevin posted above.

I am building up my post count with this thread and probably getting more info than you wanted! Here is a link I was looking for that covers a motor upgrade which would keep it looking stock, but might ACTUALLY work to heat up the cab.
