I have a leaking T case lower cover. I have replaced the gasket with sealant, w/o sealent, Red sealent, blue, black and still get leaks. The cover is in good shape, not warped. Any tricks?

I'm not that familiar with the D18 but on my D20 I had a problem, I used #2 Permatex on both sides of the gasket and it sealed. The problem I had was the front shaft seal. The oil was leaking there but was also dipping off the bottom of the cover so look closely and make certain that is where the leak is. On the D20 a couple of the bolts holding the cover in place are throuuh bolts meaning they go through the case and are open to the oil in the case, these bolts need thread sealant or the oil can seep around the threads.

Common problem. I seriously think its seeping through the case. If its not leaving a puddle on the floor, I wouldn't worry about it.

There have been lots of posts about D18 leaks in the past. All I can suggest is the usual - check the pan with a straight-edge, seal the bolts, keep the sealing surfaces clean, etc. A couple of prime sources of leaks is either between the adjustment shims, or out between the yokes and the splines. Search and you'll find plenty of reading. Seems they all leak a little though.

I worry when mine stops leaking. :D
I have tried just about anything and Tim is right they all leak from somewhere. Even if you seal all the bolts and seams, there is always the yoke.

I and others have had pretty good luck putting a small amount of sealant on the yoke splines to stop that leak/seep.

I fixed it. After using every sealant I know of, a friend suggested 3M Plastic and emblem adhesive, it worked freat. It was a bad leak, left about a 8" puddle in about 4 hours and oil spray on the undercarriage.

Excellent!!! How did you use the 3M goop? ... new gasket, coat all surfaces? Did your friend say if it stands up to oil over time?

evanjm Yeah, it's got an F-head.

the 3M weatherstrip adhesive is real good stuff. i've been using it for a couple of years now on motors. if you have a motor where the customer is going to be pulling the valve covers off frequently to make adjustment, I'll use the 3M adhesive on one side of the valve cover gasket and permatex on the other side. this way the gasket doesn't get destroyed everytime you take the valve cover off.

My friend has had it on his for years, only problem is it;s very hard to get it off again. Yes, I coated all sides of the gasket and it was gasket material I used and not cork. I hate when things leak.
