Smells like burning leaves?

I took the CJ-5 out today and the strangest thing happened. Instead of that regular ol'exhaust smell out the tail pipe, there was this strong smell of burning leaves. Swear to God. I don't know what to make of it; but soon after that, the engine started cutting out so I turned around and went back home. Nothing looks out of the ordinary, and I park it in the garage so I don't think any squirrels have stuffed it full of acorns. Anyone have a theory as to what's going wrong?

Big critter nest in the exhaust or muffler... burning, and blocking the outlet causing too much backpressure, choking the engine...

    Hope it's an easy fix.

Don't feel self-concious. The air from my heater smells like mouse urine and my floor mats smell like racoon turds. Critters love Jeeps too.

I had a mouse build a nest way up in the tailpipe, probably in the muffler, last winter. The nest was made from paper towels from the workbench. I cranked it up and paper towel and bits of mouse flesh and fur flew across the driveway into the yard! Smelled weird but burned off quick.

Well, I cut off the exhaust just in front of the muffler and stood it up on end. Dog gone if a few big handfuls of dog food fell out (I keep the dog food in the garage). Probably from the mouse I caught a few days ago. Not sure why burning dog food smells like wood though, lots of fiber I guess.

Those little buggers will pack anything full of dog food. I had my Shop vac hose on the floor over night. Must have taken four to six cups or food from the dog bowl and loaded that sucker up.
