Could a Stevens M416-B1 be worth $1050?

This is a 1965 Stevens M416-B1, looks very good, asking $1050.00
I've made an offer which is below the asking, but I'm wondering if I should go with his asking price. I'd hate to see it get away. I'd like some feedback.

I've seen them sell for anywhere between $200 to $2000. That one doesn't look bad, but it does have some surface rust. I'd say that price is a little high, but not totally out of the question. It looks to be fairly original, minus the reflectors. That's going to keep the price a little higher since it's more "collectible". Does it come with a title?

No title, Bill of sale only.

$1,050 is a bit on the high side, but not out of the ballpark. I would pay $800 without hesitation. Anything above that and I would have to resolve whether the extra $250 is worth not having to continue looking for an M416 in similar condition and being able to use my new (albeit slightly more expensive) trailer sooner rather than later.

As for the bill of sale but no title situation, this is very common with M416 trailers. Every state's DMV is different, with some requiring registration as a "home built" trailer, but it is not a huge problem acquiring a title with a bill of sale.

I apprciate the comments guys, $800.00 was my offer, the owner wanted to let it ride a couple of days while he considered it. I called him back and he wasn't ready to let er go yet, so I offered $900.00 and he agreed so I picked it up yesterday and pulled it home. :D :D :stout:

No surge brakes, just the parking brake and it works well. The trailer seems to be very sound with no rust anywhere.
After getting it home, I removed the tires & fenders, pressure washed it, wire brushed it down with zip strip and a right angle grinder then primed it & painted it black. I chose black because the wife didn't like the idea of towing a red trailer behind a blue Liberty & I didn't think a blue trailer behind a red CJ5 was the way to go, so it's black for now, It looks good enough for the gal I work for. At least it's one color. Installed a universal trailer light pkg. Now I need to locate a decent pair of military tires locally.

I know this post is old---but for anyone that might want to know---the M416B1 was made to pull behind the Marine Corps Mity Mite vehicles. These were light weight vehicles powered by an V-4 air cooled engine. This makes the trailer quite rare as well as being a USMC trailer to boot. The hoops on the front and rear are use to sling the trailer aboard ship. Nice fine!!!

I have heard that model for the Mity Mite had aluminum wheels too.

This unit came with steel wheels, aluminum would be nice.

I've not yet taken any pictures of my trailer hauling a load for the Trailer In Action thread, although I've used it now quite a few times to haul the kids and their Kayaks (3) to the Mississippi for their paddle down stream, it's about 10 miles of shallow water and slow current, I drop them off at one end and pick them up a few hours later at another spot.

Hey, I've got it! Paint it in a checkerboard pattern red/blue. Problem solved. Seriously tho, it looks good and works well. What more could you want? Matt W.
