Use your money for a winch. That V6 won't ever know the difference of a $300.00 starter or one that was repaired at an alternator and starter shop for way less.

Just my 2 cents. Guess I am cheap guy with a cheap jeep. :p

I'm with CT on this one. My V6 starts by just thinking about it. Everyone else I run with that has a Dauntless is the same. You can buy a decent winch for under $500

Back in '91, my rig had what I'm sure was the original starter. It was slow, hard starting. I called a local auto electric rebuilder. They said the originals were low torque, the ones they have are the high torque models. I asked if they had any in stock, they said two. I asked how much, they said $64.

I said I'll take them both!!
I put one on, it works great! Cranks FAST, engine starts with just a bump when warm.
Considering all the abuse that starter has seen since 1991 (deep water, mud, etc) it still works as well as the day I installed it.
I still have the brand-new spare on a shelf in the shed. (No, it's not for sale ;) )
I recommend looking in your yellow pages for a local starter/alternator rebuilder.

Just a cation on the Autozone starters. They are rebuilt from all used parts. many combined into one. Does not mean they will fail but increases the chances. Just my $.02

  10. Most autoparts stores typically have different levels of rebuilt units. The cheapest, generally only rebuild the bare minimum to make the part functional, usually the lifetime warranty units are rebuilt all the way through, but are more expensive.

We then need to get together. I'll be in Mississippi for the month of July and will return when school starts up again in August. I'm in Hollywood every week. I eat at the best steak house on this coast - Beef Eaters. So it'll be dinner then in August. Anybody else is welcome...

AC Delco, part number 323-236 for the 225. Goes for about $50. I've always had good luck with Delco starters and alternators.

Thanks for the PN Bob. Here's the info on the best steak house this coast:

Another attribute regarding Beef Eater's is the fact that if you have to wait for a table, head to the bar and drinks are on the house until they seat you. And I'd love to play with you Dan and Frank but I'll be in MS for the next 5 weeks. I'll catch up with you in August.
    Thanks again for the info.
