Diamond Plate corners

    Mudweiserjeep JEEP: Bouncy and Fun

    What is the right way to install coners. Do you just bolt them on? Should you use a gasket type material to seal out moisture and dirt so rust don't form behind it?

    Guess I would have same question about rocker panels or anytime you bolt a panel to another panel. Do you seal panels?

    I read somewhere on here that no matter what you do, moisture will get inside, and all your sealing efforts just make it harder for it to get out again.

    I have mine installed currently with no sealant - but plan to add some on the top. The bottom I'll leave open for drainage.

    X2. I ran a bead of silicone caulk on the sides/top of my rocker guards.
    Left the bottoms clear for drainage.

    I should say I ran a bead on the inside face. Just short of the edge.
    So it would not be visible when bolted in place. (Squeezed)

    I didn't do anything with mine, but that's mainly because mine are covering up body damage, so there was no real way to seal it anyway.

    I didn't do anything either, but my tub is fiberglass.

    I didn't seal mine, but I do flush them out best I can when I wash, especially in the winter...

    i would leave mine in the box, and seal them with tape ;)

    I bolted mine on with some nice crome bolts... No sealant. Not to worried about stuff getting behind it. Most of the small stuff should wash out the bottom. The only thing to worry about is not to use steel bolts. Galvanic Corrosion will a cure. Unless you are using steel diamond plate corners.

    I did use stainless socket head bolts, stainless washers, and stainless nylocks...

    I can offer this little bit of insight:

    Our fire truck manufacturers use polished diamond plate like it is chrome, they bolt the stuff on just about every flat surface that doesn't get finish-painted, and on a 34-foot-long vehicle that is a LOT of places! Whenever we have to have some battle-damage repaired, there is always an accumulation of moisture and crud behind there, and on a Jeep that means rust.

    No matter how well you seal the back, edges, or whatever, it's going to leak and leave moisture and grit behind it.

    Good thing for us most of the truck bodies we buy now are stainle$$ steel! :D

    I would think about using a flat washer as a spacer between the plating and the tub. Leave an airspace the width of the washer so you can keep it clean and dry.

    I put them on mine, 'cause there is a BIG hole on the passenger side rear where the spare tire carrier used to be before it got ripped off.:hurrican::)
