    spud Nope..it's not finished!

I have had my '75 disassembled for so long that I can't remember where the clutch return spring is supposed to go. All of the drawings I have found don't actually show where the spring goes, just that it is needed. Could someone with a factory correct setup, please send me a pic of the spring in it's correct location?? Many many E:beer:'s to the one that comes through for me.:D

I don't know if this will help, I have a 73 with a 258 and the spring was from the small hole in the clutch fork to a hole that is in the bellhousing, just forward of the fork. I don't have a picture of it since I'm only part way through a total rebuild.

Ok, I'll post a pic of the spring. It's fairly heavy and seems like something that would go under the dash on the linkage. The spring that goes on the clutch fork is to keep the rod from dislodging from the fork. I have it in place now. Pics are needed. I'll get them tonight.

    thanks

Oh. That's the clutch pedal over-center spring.

    Looking for a picture...

Ok,the FSM picture isn't great. I'll have to look at the Jeep. Raining now, maybe this morning, maybe tomorrow.

Tim, is the over-center spring under the dash, or under the tub??

Update, I found a reference to the spring and it's under the dash. Still can't find a decent photo of it anywhere, yet.

Under the dash. I looked, but don't have time to take a decent photo right now.

The over-center spring goes from the eye on the pedal to a bracket on the pedal support. The bracket is L-shaped, just behind (aft on the Jeep) the pedal bumper.

Awsome Tim, I'll make an attempt this evening to see if I can locate these points you reference.

I remember trying to reassemble this on my jeep last fall.
It wasn't easy. We ended up drilling a hole through the firewall, running safety wire through the firewall to the end of the spring, using a 2x4 as a lever in order to stretch the spring to the attach point. We never could get the curved end of the spring through the hole in the attach point and ended up putting a bolt through there and attaching the end of the spring to the bolt.

Somewhere on the internet there's a picture showing someone using a 2x4 as a lever to stretch the spring. We just followed their example to get it assembled.
There must be a better way, it was a real bugger for us.
    Good luck.
