Does anyone have a renegade built in september of 1970. I would like to get hood decals but don't know if it came with renegade 1 or renegade 2 decals. It has a 71 title but is a 70 body design. Can anyone help me with the proper decals,

RI had a tail gate, RII did not. What tailgate your have should tell you which one your had.

Someone here has an early build '71 that actually has the charateristics and decals of the Renegade I. Wish I could remember who it is....

Mine does have a tailgate, it is definately a 70 style renegade. I just don't knowe what decals it would of come with because it's titled 71. My guess would be renegade 1 but I'm just not sure.

If its was built in September of 1970 it is a 1971 model. Thats the way vehicles have been titled since the 50's. Anything after August is titled the next model year.
Yours may have been a special order that was started and finished late in the year, that would explain the early style and the late title date.

The Renegade models don't follow model year designations best I can tell but rather the body style, tailgate or no tailgate.

My jeep was the lime green and will be returned to that color when the restoration is complete. It was also built in Sept of 70 serial number 8305017 367426. I find it interesting that your renegade 1 has the charcole hood cover I thought that was added to the renegade 2 body style. I'm wondering if that is a charactoristic of a 70 renegade 1 titled as a 71.

The differences between the 70 and 71 renegades are:
    70 had a tailgate 71 did not
some 70's had rear gas tanks all 71's had rear tanks
71 had the charcoal hood stripe 70 did not
70 had 15x8 KH steel wheels 71 had 15x7 Aluminum slots

I also good to remeber that 71's were built with leftover parts while AMC was taking over the company.
    Hope this helps

If you look at camshafters 71 renegade, the thread above yours, you will see that it has the charcole hood. That's why I was wondering renegade 1's built in late 70's and titled 71 have the charcole hood.

Nothing suprises me when it comes to things Jeep did. From all the research I've done, Jeep produced 500 70 Renegade I's, 250 Lime Green and 250 Purple. I've never seen or heard from anyone who owns a Purple one. And so far, I've only seen Orange and Yellow 71 R II's. Maybe Jeep stuck some leftover decals on some of the early 71's.

I thought member Littlepurplecj had a purple one, but they do appear to be much more rare than the Lime Green ones.

Also, I have a set of NOS white decals that were used on the purple Renegade I's. I don't think the white decals were used on any other color Renegade.

    Welcome!

So, do you have any pictures? I could add some more information to the article for the last Renegade I's based on information from this thread.

Any paperwork that you could provide me with would be useful as well.

    :iagree:

It would be interesting to see the dealer invoice if you have it.

I'll try add any VIN information you guys can provide to the VIN document also.

    Welcome Renegade I!

  17. Curious where you discovered the number of "500" Renegade I's and that they were Lime Green or Purple. In the books that I have I have not come across those numbers or the limited color options. Appreciat the info!!

Your jeep was the 102nd jeep built after mine, which was also built in Sept. It could have very well have been the next renegade built after mine. Thanks for your input, When I restore it back to it's original color it will defiatly have the charcole hood stripe.

Is the hood stripe a decal or is it painted?
Any information and pictures you could post would be a great help.

I've got the color information in my article that WYOMIKE mentioned, right here on this site. Are you guys using the resources I've made available to you? The picture of the purple one above appears in the article. I mean, I've put a good bit of time into making information available and then read that people that use this site have never seen it. Honestly that bothers me.

I've not found any hard numbers for the Ren I, just the Ren II.
