Original Tux w/ cool dash badge...pics

A friend is look at getting an early cj5 and he send me these pics of one he looked at. It’s a Tuxedo Park, (8322 14102). Its original and pretty complete. Only 10K original miles but it was always used on a farm so its go some rust and dents. Some features: Vented windshield, all the chrome is there
(bumpers, hood kit, hubcaps) but some is rusty, single stick D18, column shift T90, single stick pto, and an unmolested dash except for the plow controls. It has the rear seat and the rear fender cushions in pretty good shape. It also has a “This vehicle was custom built…” badge on the dash. Is/was this badge common on the Tuxedos or is it unique?

The motor runs ok (4cyl) but could use a tune up. Needs front floors and a little rust repair here and there.

Here are the pics, though you guys might like to see them.

And I know this is one of those questions that you can’t get a good answer for but any ideas on what he should offer for this? I’m not really that familiar with the Tux package and I’m not sure if the stuff is really hard to come by. Seems like this one still has it all.

    Thanks,
    -Dean

Not much help on value, but I wonder if the Jeep was originally a corporate gift of some sort to Mr. Tattar:

Seems to fit with the "international" mention on the badge and the company being in Venezuela...

One of a kind Tux Park? Probly not much different than other Tux Parks mechanically but seems historically has extra value.

  4. Any way you look at it, that's just cool. My mom had a tag specially made for my Dad to put on the 1914 Model T he restored that was really cool. Dash tags like that rock.

    DrewDog_CJ3A I'm back!!

I've never seen the plow pump located on the drivers side.... interesting and it makes sense.. warm up the fulid with the exhuast manifold.

Mine is located on the passengers side and bolted on top of the generator. (CJ3A)

I think your friend should definitely buy it if at all possible! I've got my eyes on a '64 Tux Park in excellent, very restorable condition. Doesn't have the hubcaps on it, but it's a 1-owner and I'd bet they have them someplace.

dohc281 It is what it is.

You could do a lot worse buying that Jeep unless the price is out of this world.

I am trying to get my buddy to buy it but he is on the fence about it. I think they are asking 2K for it which probably isn’t bad if assuming there is no major mechanical problems. It really is a cool looking jeep. He sent me some more pics, the chassis looks good and it’s got huge 13 leaf spring packs in the rear.

I'm tempted to pick it up myself but I think my parents would kill me it I tired to store one more project on their farm.

I haven't been able to find out anything else about the Mr. Albert Tattar on the dash plate. Mike, your idea that it was a possible gift from Jeep seems very possible after reading the link you posted.

Show him this photo, that'll convince him! Granted, this is a CJ6, but this is what a Tux would look like all restored.

This is the one I have my eyes on, I need to pay the owner another visit.

I couldn't bear to see this Jeep rot away in a barn. I purchased the Jeep from the farm. Some parts are sooooo good and others soooo bad. Unfortunately it will have to wait until I finish my '58 CJ5.

    The Good things:
    All Tux Park extras
Unbelivable original seats and fender cushions (thanks to heavy plastic covers)
    PTO winch
    ventilating windshield
Starts, runs and drives but not road worthy
    About 10,000 miles
Still has the original matching Whitco soft top (although it is in poor condition)
    The Bad things:
    The body
    The body
    The body
    The top
    Interesting things:
    Dash Plaque
I think it was built for export
Appears to still have the original oil filter (Jeep brand)

Man oh man. That's in really good shape. I'd worry more about the frame than the body, since it's been used to plow. Looks like that body has less rust than my '75 from TN.

Thankfully the frame is clean. Although it has the plow set up(did not get a blade with it) I don't think it was used for plowing too much. I think it was used mainly to drive around the farm and bang off trees judging by the condition of the front fenders.

I'm curious to know what makes you think this?

I've seen one CJ-6 that was RHD in the US that was made for export but just never made it to South Africa. That was a dead giveaway, this being LHD and a Tux doesn't seem as obvious to me.

*edit* reread some of the old posts, I must be missing something here because Boyink references someone from Venezuela?

Are those side steps original (what years were they found?) I've got a 67 Tux and if it's historically correct I'd like to find a set for mine (much classier looking than the tube nerf bars).
    Sorry for hijacking this thread:)

Yes - correct. Not sure of years - just, like, forever..;)

Terrible for Jeeps that actually go off-road though. First high-centering == squashed steps.

Rare that you see the steps intact today. Most buyers removed them and threw them away. We had a pile of take-off steps (literally a pile about 5' across and 2' high) at the Jeep dealer. Brian saved everything.

The beach cities liked them - but all their Jeeps did was drive up and down the beach and rust.

My '75 still has them, but of course they are bent.
