    Jim,
Do you know the difference between the two tops?

Was the Luxair vinyl? It's your father's handwriting. Thus I'm asking you directly (or anyone else that might know).

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    Standard and Luxair
    they are both vinyl
the Luxair had zippered side windows and zippered rear curtain
plus the little side and rear windows
the Luxair at the rear came straight down, no angle as the standard
Standard top- the whole side would roll up; the whole rear would fold up
the bows were different as well
Joel has my brochure that would show all this

Both were vinyl. Interesting. So was canvas an option then?

    I don't recall canvas
    I remember heavy brass zippers

    Interesting.

Reading the prices guide it indicates canvas tops were an option.

    Sparky,

I never remember Kayline having the option of a "Canvas" top. They were always vinyl-coated. Hope this is of some help to you.

    Glenn and Jim,
The reference to Kayline only comes from Jim's (Sr.) handwriting.

The price guide has "Canvas Top" printed in it by Kaiser as opposed to hand written as being a dealer option.

Was canvas just synonymous with soft-top at the time? Price guide is ~'65-'66.

Since tops were originally canvas maybe the terminology just continued? Good possibility, certainly makes sense.

Why would they list them as 2 separate line items and at different prices?

I'll look for the scans/brochure this evening. I think I might actually know the whereabouts of that box. :D

They were two different tops. One (the Luxair IIRC) was handwritten in as I noted.

I've got the scanner working, I'll get scans in the gallery later.

As an analogy, Bestop lists and sells the Tigertop and Supertop for two different prices and as two different tops.

I believe the tiger top and super tops are indeed differenrt. Tiger is more original to ECJ5 as far as bows, snaps and maybe door latches. Tiger top has either hidden snaps or maybe velcro and more modern looking door latches. A little off your topic. Sorry. If i ever get a top for my 71, it'll be a tiger top.

I was just using them as an analogy. I realize they're different, that was my point. :)

Sorry - I was perusing my old Sears and Montgomery Ward catalogs from the 60's - that's what I was making reference to.

I'm referring to a dealership price list.
