Heater plate

I am in the process of restoring my heater control panel. Does anyone have any experience with this. I am trying to restore the writing. I was thinking of using little sticky letters and then spraying a "clear coat" on top to make sure they do not come off.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I haven't been in the shop, but they're near my office and I've called there before. They do just what the name implies, repair and restore old speedometers and radios for classic cars, including restoration of the faces, so they could probably re-letter that for you, or tell you who could. One of those shops that looks like it's been there since the 20's or 30's.

If your looking for a DIY method you might want to look into this, the product is made for drafting purposes and consist of small vinyl lettering you place on by rubbing the backside of the sheet and transferring the letter. It would take a steady hand but I bet its something you could do if you take your time. As you said, clearcoat would make it stay on and last a long time. These things are cheap ($4.00 a sheet) and can be bought at most drafting/art supply stores. Thanks all for the advice. I think I will try myself. I have to more to practice on if I mess it up. Last option will be paying the place in Denver courtesy of Ron if I can not seem to get it right.

Kevin, Thanks. I used Photoshop to remove Popeye from a picture I found somewhere on the net, I then used the "Magic Lasso" function to remove him from the pic and pasted him as a layer on my Jeep photo. If you tell me what you want I can do one for you. Good luck with the heater labels.
