Anyone use header wrap?

I have wanted a Jeep with fender headers forever. Now I have one and a couple questions. Since this Jeep is going to be strictly for cruising around I would like to wrap the headers in some header wrap. Does anyone have experience or tips on wrapping them? A local store here has white 2"x50' for $50. He mentioned it was paintable with header paint and that I would need about two rolls, sound right?.
Also, I have the non baffled mufflers and would like to quiet it down. What is a good bullet style muffler to use on these 225's. thanks

 

I used header wrap a few times on mucsle cars.
They make a black wrap too now.
Just make it tight.
I like Flow Masters myself for mufflers.

 

The wrap may not make any difference in a Jeep with plenty of venting space. The wrap is good for maintaining balanced heat of the headers and especially turbos. I have been considering it myself to maintain balanced heat through the cross-over and up to the turbo.

Also, consider a Magnaflow muffler which is unbaffled. $70 at Summit IIRC. That is what I will be using and I have one behind my 5.3 Chevy. Sounds awesome and not obnoxious.

 

my Header install destructions stated that header wrap would violate the warrenty. from what I have seen, they hold water/dirt makeing them rust out faster.

 

Yeah, I wouldn't wrap them normally on a trail Jeep but this wont really see dirt except on dry days. I am gonna give it a shot and see how it looks, thats the main reason for it anyway. I like the old style look that they have when they are wrapped.

 

Funny, I just finished wrapping mine this afternoon. I'm hoping it will cut down on heat on the floorboards and under the hood, we;ll see. Be sure and wear gloves and a dust mask when you put it on. I run the 40 series Flowmasters on mine. They're loud, but I like 'em.

 

I had trouble with under hood wire insulation melting due to the heat from the headers so I went ahead and put on the header wrap. It was many years ago but I do remember it was about 2" wide and came in a roll and was about $50. It came with some stainless parts to attach.
Works ok but not the best for mud - I get some strange smells as the mud dries out.

 

I used header wrap on my p/u. The stuff does work. However, when I removed the wrap to replace my block huggers with manifolds, I discovered that the headers rusted through at some places and had alot of cracks. I had the block huggers on the truck for about 3 years.
