T18 to Dana 20

I know this will seem a very basic question but it's something we don't come across over here in UK.
    My 1978 CJ-5 has a Dana 20 transfer box and T150 gearbox.
I want four speeds so am going to search for a T18.
Will a T18 just bolt straight to a Dana 20 or is an adapter plate etc needed?

    Thanks.

A JEEP T18 will bolt right up. That's my configuration.

I just talked to a Jeep repair shop with such a t18 for sale. Let me know if interested and I'll pass you their phone number.

T18 and a Dana 20 were made for each other.

    That's what's in my 79 CJ5 with a 258 six and a weber carb.

Hold on there. I think there is a little misleading info being passed on. There is an adapter between the t18 and the d20, see the pics in the link:

The set up shown in the pics is the set up used by jeep for pre '76 jeeps with a t18. The bits that will interest you are the adapter between the t18 and the d20 shown in the pic titled drivers side. The advantage you have over my set up is that your bellhousing may need minor modification to have the t18 bolt up. You should also note that International Harvester also used this set up and the adapter they used between thier t18 and possibly a t19 will work for you.

You really should read the link that nickmill posted and perform a search. This topic has been flogged heavily.

I hope he realizes that a T18 isn't really a true 4 speed trans. It is a 3 speed with the granny first gear. First gear isn't sychroed.

Yup, no overdrive in the T-18.
