Single?

I apologize for beating a dead horse here, but I've been daydreaming about a different exhaust for the Jeep again because I'm sick of the fumes. I've searched the forum, but didn't see that anyone was running a single 2 1/2" system. Anyway, I was thinking about going to a single 2 1/2" pipe inside the frame that would exit on the passenger side at the rear corner of the body (similar to the factory). Do you guys think the single 2 1/2" system would restrict power and fuel mileage compared to my current dual 2" pipes?

 

I've been thinking I want to try the same thing. Everything you read nowday points to performance from a large single exhaust. I ran 2 1/4" inch pipe years ago on a CJ7 w/duals that's as large as the mufler shop guy said he thought he could get under it. I have 2" exit under the doors on each side and am thinking a y pipe into 2 1/4" or so single exit behind the rear wheel.

I have a single 2 1/2" inch exhaust that is up inside the frame rail and exits the rear corner of the Jeep, only thing is mine exits on the drivers side. Horsepower and mileage seem to be unaffected. Plus, it's SOOOOOOOOOO much quieter and less smelly. Let me see if I can snap some pics later this afternoon and post them. I think I still owe you guys some pics of my dual battery setup too.

Sounds like a good idea to me. You can pick your muffler to give the sound that you want. Plus, fewer parts cause less service problems.

 

Here is a couple pics of my single exhaust. I am in one of those stupid ankle boots from surgery a few weeks ago so they aren't that great. I can try again if you want to see anything specifically. Let me know.

I ran a single pipe, not sure of the size...whatever was factory I'd guess, into a single muffler with one inlet and two outlets. Then I ran two tail pipes to both rear corners behind the tires. Those who saw it @ Tellico will tell you it was quiet as a mouse.

Bob, if you have any problems finding a good muffler shop, PM me. I know a couple places up there that do DARN good work. I know, I worked at these places. If you can dream it up, they'll work with ya. The catch is cost. These places do alot of top end work on rods.

been considering going back to a single, but wasnt sure if it would hinder the performance..... but would be nice to have it slightly quieter....

 

You wouldn't believe how nice it is to have it quieter and not to smell like exhaust every time you drive it.
