Im looking at rebuilding my T14 trans and Model 18 t/c because of mocha trans fluid. My brother has a T150 trans and Model 20 t/c. Will it interchange? If so is it worth a swap or rebuild?

I would say rebuild. Your D18 has an offset DS vs the D20 centered. There may be enough length difference between the two trannies too to make DS length changes needed as well. These gearboxes are pretty tough. Is the mocha fluid the only reason for a rebuild? If there are no other symptoms, why not change the fluid?

Don't use the Dana 20 - the offset is wrong and the low range is 2.0:1 v. the D18's 2.42:1 - plus you'd have to change the rear axle. The only advantage to the 20 is that it's quieter than the 18. Not much advantage of the T150 over the T14; The T150 fits a Ford bellhousing, and you may have to get a differnt bull gear to mate the t150 to a D18. The T150 may be slightly stronger than the T14, since it was used in V8 CJs from 76-79. Not as strong as the T15 though.

There's a page on the Novak website about mating Ford transmissions to GM bellhousings, if you want to use the T150. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/ford_to_gm.htm

I have yet to take the trans and t/c apart. They are out of the Jeep. The fluid had water in it and I do not want to take a chance on any problems. I just took the rear dana 44 apart and that also had water in it along with lots of rust pits. I did find out it is Trak Loc. So I guess a rebuild this winter sounds like a plan.
    Thanks for the info.

IF the pits aren't too deep, that'll just make them hold more oil. Seriously though, I am sure I'm not the only one who has put 15k miles on a tranny after finding water in a diff or tranny. I'm not recommending it mind you, but before I paid money to rebuild, I'd make sure something was actually wrong.

In looking at this chart http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transfer_case_gears_grid.htm
seems that tje t150 uses a special bull gear with a seal surface. You may be able to use the T150 with the 809297 (29 tooth, 6 spline, 20 degree tooth angle) bull gear, but the trans and transfer case would have to share oil. Should be ok ...

If he has a V-6, the T-150's input shaft will be too short.

You may be right, but I don't see why. The T-150 is a 3-speed F*rd passenger car transmission, adapted to the D20. Is the Jeep bell for the V6 different from the GM bell? If you're thinking about the V6 plate adapter, I think you can just omit it and follow the Novak recipe above.

<edit> Yes, I recall that the '71 is different, and has no plate adapter. I believe it should still work if you use a earlier V6 bell.

As I remember, all V-6 transmissions (T-86, T-14A, T-18 ) have a long input shaft. Longer than any Ford input shaft anyway. The long V-6 input shaft moves the engine forward and eliminates the need to cut the firewall.

I think I will stick with what I have. I'll know more when I crack them open.
    Thanks!
