I should have added to my original post that I feel that all brand name oils are the same but prefer Penzoil (I guess cause I grew up on that). I've been using straight 30w and wanted to see what others were using and if there was any consensus.

I was in the oil business for 25 years. I sold Kendall among others. In my opinion the key to oil is viscosity and change frequency. In my new 225 I am using Castrol 20-50 for break in. In all my other stuff I use Redline.
Kendall was the best petroleum based until Union Oil absorbed them. I don't know anymore as Union was not good quality in my opinion and now Union has been absorbed by another bigger company. There are only a few oils companys now adays. Redline and Amsoil are two I know are really good and really expensive.

I don't have my Jeep running yet, but I plan to use Castrol. I used Valvoline for many years and somehow swithched to Castrol several years back. Always had good results. Just a week ago I changed the intake gasket on a GM 3.1L V6 that has 152,000 miles on it and it was quite beautiful inside the lifter valley. I plan to stick with it.

I also had a Dodge 4 cylinder engine that had 278,000 on it when I finally sold it that had nothing but Castrol in it and it was quite clean inside at about 250,000 when I replaced the head.

There are as many opionions about motor oil as there are people. As for my Jeep, it is probably a couple of years away from final completion, but I have been thinking of using synthetic because it will be driven infrequently and I can afford to use synthetic. I will probably break it in using something like 5W-20 and swithch to synthetic about the third oil change or so.
