Rack and pinion. Wonder what from?

Rack and pinion is suppose to go straight to spindals. Bet that has some major strain on it. Wonder how long it would last before the rack case breaks.

Is that a rack & pinion or a hydraulic setup, the rack & pinion in my Dakota looks nothing like that setup. I have never seen one that only protrudes from one end.

I believe that is a modified rack. I wouldn't trust it.

Erik we want pictures of your rack & pinion setup. I personally wouldn't trust the unit in the post above for 10 minutes let alone take it to the woods and wheel it someplace like Tellico. The one pictured would have some god awful bump steer.

Interesting engine/trans swap, motor from an Audi linked to a five speed to a D18. Anyone have eny experience with something like that?

I hope that spring hanger setup was only for fitting. Kinda of a cool conversion with the Audi engine. I have a 1.8l here if anyone is interested in doing a similar conversion. I also like the top.

Re: Have a look at this guys steering. Heck what about his trans.

This is not a hi-jacking and I'm with Brad. 5 spd. O.D. transmission? What a nice small package and it bolted to our Spicer 18. Get ride of the big belhousing and run our 225 V6's. Sweet! How do we get a transmission like that? I've been trying for years to find out about a T-90 4 spd. they have in that hemisphere.

I dont get it. How is your rack and pinion set up Dauntless Powered? Is it attached to your front diff?

    karl,

yes, that is the weakest link in my setup, the PO welded a bracket right to the front of the pumpkin. i have to take the steering apart just to get in the diff. that is one of the reasons i am changing it out
