OK in a moment of brain fade, which end goes to the shackle on mil wrap springs?
The open loop or the closed one?
I've seen them done both ways here latly. :?
I'm sleep deprived so thats not helping anything either. R)

OK let me try and explain a tad better. R)
On the leaf springs that are the military wrap, on one end the 2nd spring makes a large loop over the main spring eye.
    The other end doesn't.
Which one goes to the shackle?

  4. Jerry: On mine, the mil wrap is on the shackle.

    HTH.

Why do you run it with the military wrap on the shackle side?

I allways thought it best to run with wrap on the frame mount end. That way if the spring broke the military wrap would keep that side together and help locate the axle properly under the jeep. The shackle side would just unfold causing the axle to go askew under the jeep. Thats sort of an extreme case of spring failure, but you get the point.

Of course you need to look at where the center pin goes if the springs are nonsymetrical, although I think most jeep springs are within an 1" or so(except cherokee rears).

The only reasons I can see to run the wrap at the shackle ends would be if your shackles are in front and you don't want the little 1/2 wrap piece to get caught on a rock and bend that leaf.

I may be wrong, but thats my theory. Any thoughts?

Like I said I'm seeing them done both ways.

    I'm confussed myself.
The only spring failure I've had are bent springs.
Always the passenger side front and always at the frame mount.

That's the way the factory made them!

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

I'm confused after reading this thread :?
you should have the (safety) military wrap on both ends of the 2nd leaf.
and the front springs are offset; they will only install one way, correct?
so you folks are saying that your second leaf only has the (safety)military wrap on one end of the leaf, not both ends ?
I've never seen or heard of that
also it sounds like you are stating that the center pin is the center of the spring, and they will install either direction.
help straighten me out on this please

The center pin isn't in the center of the spring. I'd never say that! The springs I've installed always have a "Front" marked on 'em so you know which way they go.

I don't recall both ends having the safety wrap on 'em but I believe you.

 Just more proof that either my memory is going or my brain is full and it's shoving out information it used to hold in order to hold new stuff.

    mb82 I feel great!

I'm going to vote for the second one. Or at least I think that what I think is happening to me sometimes.

    I really need a digi cam. :shock:ops;
Heres what I found on the web.
    The springs are Black Diamond.
One end has the "wrap" the other is tapered.
Thinking I'll call the tech and act stupid. R) (would not much of a strech on this one huh R) )

I'll have to check dad's new BDS springs when I get there in a few. If they only have the wrap on one end, he put them at the front. Course, he has a shackle reverse.
The pins are in the center, IIRC....
    Lots a help huh.

Mine have it on both ends of all 4 springs. The spring shop that did them didnt even ask, they just built them that way for me.
