creative ways to fill the transfer case?

Good day eh.Well I've tried the suction gun,mustard bottle with a piece of clear tube and a cap c/w with clear tubing that screws on the oil container and all work just a little better then trying to get it in with a spoon. This is through the level check hole of course.
Anyone else have any easier/better ways they would like to pass on. I've even entertained the idea of a hole in the floor and fill through the vent.Now that I'm overdrive enabled I need to find a easier way then through the pto cover. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Jim out.

 

I use a gear lube quart and 6" of rubber fuel line. remove the yellow top off the bottle, stick the pointy end in the rubber hose tight. snip the top of the quart like you normally would and cram the other end of the rubber hose on the bottle tightly.

On mine, I can then stick the full bottle up in the frame around the PTO and muffler sideways without spilling. Once in position, pop off the yellow "cork" and stick the hose in. squeeze the bottle slowly until full.

 

Sta-lube used to sell a pump that would fit into their square, stubby quart bottles. Took a while, but got most of the oil from the bottle to the fill hole.

 

I took an empty 90wt bottle, cut the bottom out, put a 2.5' length of plastic tube on it, removed the little cover in the floor that allows access to the transfer case shifter pin (2 bolt cover on pass side of trans cover) ran the hose down and into the side of the transfer case/transmission and made a hanger for the bottle on the dash. add a little oil, wait a little while. $.02

 

Well I use the hose and quart bottle for the tcase , but I use a trick for the tranny . I take the floor cover up and remove 1 bolt out of the trany tower plate and fill it though that. That way is quicker and no mess for me.

 

Don't the tranny and T-case share oil. Would it be possible to slowly pump fluid into the tranny and have the T- case be taken case of? Now that I have an overdrive and pto winch I too will need a new method.
Think this is bad my early MB tranny is right side drain and fill.

 

i'm with boyink and lynn... cheapie little pump from northern screws on top of the oilcontainer and it's such a close fit by the xfer case that you don't really need to hold it in place. just pump till oil starts to seep out and you're done.

 

Pump is the way to go. Should have em at any FLAPs

 

I use dad's pump setup, it uses a 5 gallon bucket w/5ft hose. i fill the tranny slowly to keep the transfer overfull.

 

This is the best. We did it this weekend on my brother's Dana 300 and both axles. Nice and clean and on his...the bottle was clear and graduated so we could tell exactly how much oil we were using.

 

Do you have or could you get a picture of how you did that. I would like to do that possibly. Did you make a rubber boot for it where it passes throught the floor?

 

I recently had to fill my T/C after installing a PTO. Pulled the shifter out and filled straight through the opening. But I do think your pump idea would probably work well.

 

Glen, wouldn't you run the risk of overfilling? Or is that not a problem?

I guess not, but I was first thinking about the difs when you said vent. Seems like we decided the difs were only meant to be filled about 1/2 way. Anything above this would just run the length of the axle tubes and then out onto the ground.
