Trailer Mods

    Some of you guys have been very inventive with your Jeep modifications but no where have I seen that creativeness stretched to the limits as with trailer modifications, especially those involving off-road camping. Besides the typical tent stacked on top, what is the best or most unusual mod that you guys have seen?

    I like my under the body water tank
    the tank is 15 gallon, has an RV type 12v pump, and farm tractor battery.
    I can take a shower at Borrego if I wanted too.
    the tank is currently leaking (not bad for 20 years) and I am going to pull it for repair.
    At that time, I will do mini write-up with pics and specs, materials used etc, for any that might be interested.
    I aslo added 2" ball hitch, shock absorbers, and the fiberglass cap.

    I remember seeing the cap but not the water tank. Cool! Look forward to seeing your write-up. Wasn't it Glenn that also had a gas tank tucked underneath his trailer and some other goodies?

    Does a idea/sketch count?

    Actually not sure I can find the sketch anymore...

    At some point I intend to setup my Bantam for camping. Not actually sleeping on or in, since it's way too small for that. And not really off-road camping, although I guess all it would take is a generator...we usually camp in parks where we at least have power.

    Anyhoo...the basic idea is to make a platform to level off the trailer even with it's top. Underneath is storage for tent, chairs, table, etc. Water tank and pump up front. Platform is on legs so all weight is down inside the trailer.

    Back on top, take one side and place a small fridge, slide out Coleman stove, coffee maker, maybe even a microwave. Hinge something to drop down and make a counterspace when at camp - either plywood or angle iron and seperated sheet metal. Some kind of small slide out sink for dish washing.

    Other side - access for some plastic tubs for clothes etc.

    Now cover the whole thing with some arched conduit and a vinyl cover. Solid ends front and rear.

    It's all done in my head...;)

    I have thought about something like the trailers Mike Likes crossed with a Bantam.....

    Mighty ambitious and at the same time impressive. I like the idea in Jim's trailer where the water tank is tucked out of the way underneath the trailer. Seems like there's room there for other storage.

    mb82 I feel great!

    I looked into that idea. I still really like it but it would be a lot of work for not a lot of space. Not saying that I won't make one, I guess it all depends on what comes down the road later on in life for me. for now some sort of an offroad trailer like what Mike was looking at building will be fine, minus the microwave)

    This is a Korea era Airborne trailer. Lots of stuff can go in here.
    Make drawers for the top section, I'd make it pretty heavy to remove, and have room below for the big heavy stuff to retain the center of gravity. Naturally drawers wouldn't work if you had no tailgate.

    Jeepngem has had a offroad teardrop on the board for a couple years now
    he wants to build one
    talk has intensified with our Colorado trip looming next year
    he didn't want to have to keep setting up/taking down a tent
    plus, your gear might stay dryer during monsoons

    I saw an old Teardrop on the highway a few years ago thet had 33's & what looked like wills pickup rear feners on it towed behind a Bronco. Have wanted one ever since.
