What Did I Just Buy

I posted this on here a couple weeks ago with only some blurry photos from the seller. Made the purchase without test driving or really looking at anything and just got it home. It's a 69 with the dauntless. Ugly winch and antenna, dealer installed radio? Came with original window sticker from dealership in the glovebox. Fuel gauge, heater, wipers, radio don't seem to work. Seems to drive well though.

Looks pretty good to me. I see the fuel gauge reads full. If it goes to E with key off then the wire from the gauge to the tank is shorted to ground. The heater could be a fuse. The wipers are also fuzed. Enjoy...

 

Looks like a solid jeep, but they always have some little problems to solve. It looks fairly stock so the wiring diagram should help you trouble shoot the electrical stuff. Here is a factory service manual with wiring diagrams if you don't have one.

Its the proper color! Almost a twin of mine, bright red with black corners. Are those corner plates steel? The steel ones are bomb proof.
Your speedometer is in KPH, these show up on ebay from time to time.
Love the old school turbine mags!

What happened to the side of the t/ case below the plug hole?
Looks like there was a bit of a repair there?

 

It looks like someone got their foot caught in the fuel gauge wire at some point and broke it so that should be an easy fix.

The corners are steel but I don’t really care for the look, I like originality.

I do have 2 questions

1) what is the red light on the interior (3rd “button”)

2) what is the indent and knob above passenger side rear tire

 

1, is your hazard light switch.
2, The mushroom is a vibration dampner for when the spare tire was mounted there.

 

Red light on the dash is the emergengy flasher switch. Pull it out to turn them on.
The "knob" above the rear tire is actually a rest for the spare tire, in it's original side mount configuration. You can remove it if you wish.

 

The red light is the emergency light switch, that is original. The indent was a holdover from the where the top bows were mounted much earlier in the cj5 design years. The spare tires used to mount on the passenger side from the factory, the knob was adjusted to keep the tire from bouncing, ie vibrating on the 4-hole mount.

Look through the picture archives on ewillys.com and you will see all of this. It is a great reference for stock pictures.
