Is This Worth The Rebuild?

I want to replace the single barrel set up on my dauntless and I bought this 2G off ebay. It fits the two barrel intake that I have, but I'm noticing some differences between this carb and other 2G's I'm seeing on this forum. For instance, this has a front fuel inlet instead of the side inlet. It also has a float bowl vent on the top.

The tag reads 7008389 which references to a late 50's Chevy Truck, and its got size 53 jets in installed.

Should I rebuild this and run it, or keep looking for a better 2G? If I go with this, I will still need to come up with a throttle relocation bracket, and an air cleaner.

    Thanks for your input!

Those details shouldn't matter much. The key thing is that it fits your 2bbl manifold. There were two sizes of 2G carbs with different flanges on the bottom. The Dauntless V6s used the smaller one while the odd-fire Buick V6s from the '70s used the larger one.

If that's from the 50's, it's "probably" the small one and will likely fit a stock Dauntless manifold.

Another issue you may have is the motion ratio at the throttle linkage hole combined with your pedal. That's probably not too hard to work around though.

Thanks @Fireball looking around online it seems like a lot of setups are modified in some aspect anyway. Ill have to bolt it to the intake and see if the throttle plates open up all the way. I guess that would be the deciding factor.

Assuming that is good. What about the 53 jets? In reading online it looks like stock is 51. I'm at sea level, think that will be a problem? Engine is beefed up with "a bigger cam and higher ratio rocker arms" per the original owner who was going to put it in his "race Jeep".

It's a Good Rochester Carb. The jets are very close to stock . It may me just fine with the bigger cam. AnyHoo, It's cheap & fun to rebuild one. Keep it & go for it .

Thats the smaller version of the 2G, you can tell by the size of the air cleaner mounting flange. Should bolt up to the Dauntless.
Edit: most 225 intakes have a heat riser channel right in front of the throttle bores. Make sure this carb covers that.

53's are pretty close for east coast. Get it running and tuned good. Check your plugs and go up or down by them.
2g jets are easy enough to change. I like Mike's Carburetor parts, get a spare top gasket. By spraying the top gasket with silicone I've had mine off 4-5 times for jet changes without issue.

Thanks for weighing in everyone. I'll have to order up a rebuild kit and get to work fabricating a throttle bracket!
