We're Do I Find A Spring Style Grille Welt Clips?

Anyone know? I bought a grille to hood welt kit for my 73 but it comes with the solid style that's split on the end and I don't want to use that style. Is there a suitable spush in spring style that I can use? My 73 grille uses the welt style gasket and not the 76 and later style. Thanks ahead of time!

I'd ask at the paint & body counter of your FLAPS.

Maybe Pete DaBella jeep parts or Walcks. This is talked about on the 2A page I think.

I used the rivets on my M38. They were black and longer than the shiner ones I just used on my ‘60 CJ5. The black ones were no sweat-just put them on with no effort. The shiny ones I just did were very difficult. Being shorter and stiffer they were hard to spread and make a secure fit. There is a $40 tool available for those. Instead I made one from an old pair of pliers.
On the next one I’ll go with the spring clips.

I used Mcmaster 1129A982 for the welt and glued down with the right stuff. Solid silicone rubber that provides a good quality seal.

What did you glue it down with?

I used small pan head screws and lock nuts to hold the welting down on mine. the pan head screws sit low enough that they don't contact the hood. got tired of fiddling with clips and stuff.

I purchased that tool and can loan it for the price of postage (it is made from a pair of channel locks). The tool doesn’t do a great job. It separated the ‘split’ in the rivet but wouldn’t put a nice tight crimp on the rivet. I ended up finishing the job with regular channel locks and/or vise grips.

I used the Right Stuff. Permatex Black gasket maker will work . I put 3/16" aluminum rivets in the holes but did not pull them all the
way in so as not to displace the rubber. Then cut the remaining stem off. The holes fit the rivets. Tape the lines where the molding
goes so you end up with a clean edge. Remove tape before the stuff sets up. The gasket maker adheres well to the molding and paint.

On my 67 I used pop rivets to hold the welting in place.

I did this after buying the silver split rivets and the tool. I think I got one rivet out of five to look reasonable and gave up and switched to pop rivets.

You could also try some weather stripping like this:

I put a couple of small pieces of this between the top of my tailgate and the body to stop it from rattling. I don't know how well it would work for the hood.

I also tried the crappy split rivets, threw them out in frustration, and used pop rivets. Welting is held down tight, looks at least as good, maybe better.
