I believe you're in violation of federal law.

Hopefully the FBI isn't trolling earlycj5.com for law breakers. :D

    Be careful what you say.
The JEEP POLICE are scanning these sites.

I have noticed the oil being pushed up and dripping down on the floor due to me leaving the cable loose. I need to pull the drive gear out to check for the proper part number.

Oh just so you know, never have been worried about the jeep police. Could can less about their opinion either. Going to take off the speedo cable and see which direction it is rotating, I have an app for true speed based on GPS... if ever needed.

Saturdays plan is to roll the jeep out of the garage and jack up the rearend to get the tires off the ground and start it up and note direction of rotation with the speedo cable removed from the transfer case then report findings here then remove my speedometer to note the same there.
I'll take a pic or two for my replies

Got moved to back burner, as my new to me 2150 motorcraft carb is almost ready to install on my 283

No help on this mystery but you lean new things. I didn't know that the Scout D18 rear bearing retainer routed the speedometer cable like that. I have a pretty sharp angle in the speedometer cable attachment to the D18 in my 3B because the frame is fully boxed there. That Scout housing would solve that and I even know where there is a freebie donor---

Don't mean to hijack, but is such a cable available for my 3B? It pulls oil up to the speedo.

Core material should be available but have not looked in a long time. If you have a speedo repair place near by they should have it.

Just took a quick look and it's avail everywhere, Walmart, amazon, autozone etc. You can get the core kit for as little as $8.00.
Be sure to take the old core with you to make sure you get the opposite twist.

My current cable is a NAPA replacement for a cj5, so watch out for them. Ordered a CJ5 cable due to the SM 420 adapter pushing all that a bit farther to the back. Thanks for the heads up about a core replacement. probably too late for my speedometer
