As part of my yearly tune up I installed 4 new spark plugs. Went fancy, I know. But any little thing I can do to help this old gal run smoother, I'm fine with that.
Working from front to the firewall, the first 3 looked fine. The last one, closest to the firewall was covered in oil!! Is this bad, or REALLY REALLY BAD¿

Valve cover gasket leaking? It's not fouled so it can't be internal and couldn't get on the threads anyway.

that is kind of weird....looks like the oil is seeping down the threads from outside (like a valve cover leak Glenn mentioned), as opposed to excess oil in the combustion chamber. The electrodes look dry and not fouled or carbon coated.

I agree with the above, Looks to me like run down oil from a leaky rocker arm cover gasket. Or from the oil line to the head? I can't remember what side of the block that's on. Can you post a photo of the porcelain part of the plug?

As said above plug not fouled would highly speculate the valve cover

A leak from the rocker cover is the only thing that makes sense. Looks like it is time for an oil change too.

Let's hope a rod doesn't start knocking if he changes it. :)

Main oil line is on the opposite side, swap the valve cover gasket and begin a watch to see if it returns

This is the oil line I was saying you might want to check for a leak

Brakes went out:shock:, so its going to the shop to get looked at by a real mechanic. Brake failure don't bother me, it's my wife I'm more concerned about.
I refilled the empty MC and had her pump the brakes as I was looking for leaks, but I didn't see anything apparent

Review: I went back to the lawnmower sparkplugs today. It's been running fine, just not quite right. Installed 4 new AC Delco units, and took it for a drive. Ran smoother.
Here are the 3 sparkplugs I removed. The last one i didnt include due to me not fixing that leaking oil return line.

The E3 may be good for newer cars, but I really feel like it's a waste of money for my fhead

Same here, the cheaper plugs seem to be just fine for our engines, I tried E3 plugs and didn't really notice any difference at all. Back to regular ones :)

Lawnmower plugs form Ace Hardwear work just as Good. Champion J 8 is what I have always used. Just saying.

Personally I like Bosch super copper. Not that I have ever seen any improvement in anything, just my plug of choice..
