Another V6 D27 Yoke Swap Question

After reading one of Fireball’s posts, I realized my leaking pinion needed to be reevaluated. I pulled a yoke off of a 4cyl Dana 27, and put it in my V6 D27 (without looking any closer than course vs fine splines). The V6 pinion only had slight signs of weeping before swap, now it’s a gusher. Do I have a yoke problem, or a seal/bearing problem? Do I need to buy the yoke that others have? Nickmil has listed some Scout sources for the yoke, but I don’t recall seeing 4cyl D27 in there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

 

I would say if all you swapped was the yoke, then it's the yoke with a bad seal surface, or a groove in it in a different spot from the previous pinion. That said, when you either replace it or sleeve it, change the seal. That will solve it. And the 4 cylinder yoke is for the larger 1310 ujoint, will that work with your driveshaft?

 

Short answer, is yes. Long answer is that my project started life as a 4cyl. Built a “super” 18 from the original D18 and the Commando donor D20. The original rear axle was full of water and not worth saving. Sourced a pair of V6 axles so ratios would match. This is the reason for yoke swap.

I haven’t done a sleeve like this before. Anything specific that I should use for a sleeve? Thank you. -blalp

 

If you end up using a speedy sleeve the seal will say on the box what size to buy or have a part # for it.

 

If the groove in the yoke is deep then it is a good idea to fill it then sand it flush. Use threadlocker on the sleeve to act as a lubricant for installation and also to lock the sleeve in place.

 

What do you recommend as a filler? Something like Loc-tite 660, panel bond, or JB Weld? Thank you. -blalp

Speedi Sleeve. Just measure the diameter, and the website will give you the part number. I think you can get them at rockauto, saving some money over Napa.
