Replaced it about 18 months ago. Now it’s intermittent and sometimes doesn’t work at all.
Who makes the best replacement for my 71 CJ-5? Don’t want to replace this every year.

I’ve been battling with the Napa switches on my 75 for awhile. The first one was stellar for over a decade. Now I’ve done 2 in as many years. More so I have to order for 1965 cj5 because their computer shows everything newer having a column ignition.

I’ll be following this for other suggestions.

Here’s a link to a current eBay listing for NOS CJ-5 (up to ‘71) ignition switches, complete with original Jeep logo keys.

Get one - or two - while you can…

I’m pretty sure the ‘67 or ‘68-up ignition switches take a modular spade lug plug on the rear of the original Pollak switch. Midwest Military’s switches (Maury’s post #4) take screw-on terminals used on the earlier models.
Can anyone confirm when the modular plug came into use?

You may be right about that, Donny - my '67 has the screw-on type.

Could spade terminal adapters be used on the screw-type switch lugs - like these?:

....or is the modular ignition switch plug a single multi-wire unit, rather than individual female spade connectors?

I always look at Marine stores, Boat equipment is usually better that Auto Parts stores, designed for wet applications.

If you aren't concerned about originality, your local WestMarine has a nice selection of keyed ignition switches.
