I received my new power steering pump brackets today. i out it on , but i have a problem with vacuum doohicky on the HEI hits the mounts. and when i turn it the other way i have my one lock down point on the cap hitting the intake corner. I already smoothed out the corner to get the HEI cap on without hitting it, but now i have this.

    My question

Can I lop off one the offending HEI cap hold down? There will be 3 others, but if i sand it down i will have the room i need to turn the cap to time the engine.

Pics? I had to get after my ps pump bracket ( aluminum version) with a flap disc and use a socket head cap screw. Steel version on the other clears fine.

it fits, but i will not get much movement to time the engine. if i can knock off that one hold down on the large HEI cap, and i will be good to go.

I just cut the same hold down off mine last week. Only has ran a couple minutes since but seems fine.

Have spare cap in case it doesn’t work out. Or if it fits when I get timing worked out.

I cut mine off years ago. Winced on start up but it ran just fine.

I've got a question, rather than a comment,.....

Where did you guys find yer P/S pump brackets,..??

I'm thinking of adding P/S to my CJ 5/ Dauntless,.....

Along those lines, Has anybody done a power brakes/ hydraulic conversion, like on some of the Chevy pickups, vs: the hydro-vac power brakes,..??

on the distributor - I lopped off one of my hold downs as well and it has been that way for years.

on the brackets (3 piece) - I got the big piece from jeepsterguru. For the two stamped steel pieces I first bought new ones off ebay, any they fit BUT positioned the pump way out and it rubbed the fender so you either couldn't get the belt tight or had to clearance the fender. So I eventually bought original equipment brackets used off ebay (hard to find and expensive) and it fit much better.

I really like the looks of that bracket Fireball I had been looking into adapting other brackets but nothing was cooperating , Regal's And Cutlass's used to be all over the place cheap but the scrap prices a few years and they all disappeared. This is nice no hunting looks like it will have plenty of room on my odd fire 231, guess I'm gonna be buying caliper brackets and a pump bracket from Brennan now :)

That was a bracket for a Buick 400-455. Looks similar but won't work.

I took a grinder to the DUI distributor side where it hits and still kept the hold down and I can adjust timing and everything. As for PS bracket I don’t have issues. Never took off anything either.
