    So I guess that's a NO?
If I wanted to go injected, I would've asked about that...
Personally I wouldn't waste the $$ to inject an f-head.

The Webers are nice, but too pricey for me, and the original carburetors work just fine.

I suppose that is a knock off of a Carter YF.

I bought a NOS Carter YF from Dan Sharon (CMV Jeeps). Since it was old I refreshed it with a new kit and after adjustments it functions flawlessly.

He still has a few of these listed on his Ebay store.

Never used one, however, I'm always a bit skeptical about "foreign" carbs. In a perfect universe, I would stick to US or European made carb and rebuild it.
That being said, there are a couple of solid one barrel carbs out there (or, at least, used to be) that had promise.
Solex used to be a popular swap.
I'm a huge fan of the Rochester series carbs and the Monojet might be a good choice, as the Autolite 1100 that came on the Ford 176-200 sixes.
Of course you would have to find one, then adapt it over.

Just ordered one. Thanks Oldpappy! (y) Where did you get the kit from?

I don't remember where I got the kit, may have been from CMV, QTM, or may have been from "Scout Pilot".

I don't run ethanol in my Jeeps, but I paid the extra cost for a kit that uses modern material that will stand up to it for the accelerator pump diaphragm in case non-alcohol gasoline becomes scarce. Don't buy a cheap kit they are made overseas and who knows what materials are used.

I had to fiddle with the metering rod adjustment a few times to get mine right, but once I got it right it has been perfect. Put a good filter ahead of the carburetor....

Yeah, NOS stuff doesn't like Ethanol at all. The metering rod adjustment is definitely tricky, no doubt.

Fifty year old rubber, or whatever it is, is always suspect in my book. It was worth $60 to get a throttle body that isn't worn out. The one I got came sealed in old plastic. It was clean and shiny.

My 2 cents: I agree with you that if you want to keep the Jeep original -- and not go with fuel injection -- then go with the YF. That being said, if you have a useable core, send it to Scoutpilot (https://oldjeepcarbs.com/) and you'll have a perfect running carburetor.

I no longer have the original carb.
Currently has a Solex on it, and is not all that cold weather friendly.

Ask Willys America if a YF rebuild kit can be used on those?

I'll add another 2 cents to this thread: Post a WTB add in the classifieds on this site for a useable core; or find one on Facebook Marketplace; or try eBay (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...at=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_odkw=carter+yf&_osacat=0). IMO, the Solex carb is junk. I've read many horror stories concerning them and few happy endings. You also might try reaching out to Scoutpilot directly and see if he has a useable core that he could rebuild for you. I do not trust other vendors' rebuilt carburetors. But I will defer to Glenn and others with more experience.

I agree with everyone's thoughts on Scoutpilot, definitely go to him. And the YF is certainly a sturdy carburetor, hands down much better than the Solex. But to defend the Solex just a bit it doesn't have a choke, just a fuel enrichment so yeah, in cold weather it can be a pain.

Carter YFs were used on a lot of vehicles other than Jeeps, so plenty of them out there, but most non-Jeep applications were for larger engines, usually six cylinders, so might need to change the main jet for it to work well on a F134, maybe not.

Pre-1987 F-Series Pickups with the 300-6 are good sources for them, and they're not exactly rare

Just a FWIW, the YF on the L-226 has a larger mounting base (bolt hole spread) but other than that it looks the same. I've not tried it but I have also wondered if the basic carb body itself is interchangeable.
