So I was pulling the front seal out of the timing cover and i noticed the bore where the distributer comes through to the oil pump shaft. there was a crack, then i realized it has a piece broke off. How much of a problem will this be? And how the heck does this happen? I did notice the hold down for the distributer was a modified rocker arm to hold it down. interesting. hahahaha

Did you pull the housing with the distributor still installed? Some dist hold downs did look like a rocker arm. The housing is trash.

No distributer was out. you can tell it was something that happened a while ago. i did not find any pieces laying around.

So it is not good? What will happen if used?

30-40 lb oil pressure makes it pretty hard to turn the oil pump. The dist shaft which drives the oil pump will see upward pressure on the dist shaft driven gear to the drive gear. I just wouldn't trust it.

I just bought the Greyworks replacement from Rock auto. Some slight differences, including the distributor hold down (haven’t figured that out yet).
I’ll try to post comparison pics later today.

That 'Piece' may be in your Oil Pan / Pick up ? Most likely in smaller pieces.
It's better to check that out , when you replace that housing.

I was just getting ready to list a decent original cover off my part out if you're interested.

From a 231? (the flat style). Maybe, might take a little while to find it.
