Adjusting Fuel Gauge

The gauge is a NOS and it works going up and down. As stated, I’m most interested in the when I’m out. All my driving is putting around town and when on trails, I always carry Jerry cans. Would be great if accurate top to bottom, but I accept I’m dealing with very very old technology.

 

If its OEM (NOS) it should be. They were originally.

Nothing wrong with "old" tech. Archimedes had the orbit of Venus figured to five decimal places. No one in 1955 thought a fuel gauge should only half-work.

So either it was "bent" wrong before it went in, or we are back to checking electrical resistance values for the whole sytem.

 

The gauge was NOS bought from that guy that had a number of them from Vietnam and was selling them on eBay. If forget his name but they were new and OEM.

 

I don't want to sound too sarcastic...but anything advertised as OEM from Vietnam probably...is NOT!

 

It's most likely Blue Moon Scooter on Ebay. From Vietnam and the real deal. Lots of forum members have bought NOS gauges from them.

 

I bought a speedo cluster from Vietnam and portions of it lasted about 1 month. The speedo and temp gauge were fine, but the odometer and fuel gauge failed quickly.
That was my experience. I hope those who bought other items have better luck!

 

parts for older vehicles aren't made like they used to. lower quality material, weak quality assurance, quantity over quality. Sometimes you have to "readjust" things right from the box. It should never be a surprise from some of today's manufacturers. It is simple tech, but nowadays the quality just isn't there. That's all I was getting at. So getting back to what the OP wants.....adjusting the float arm to whatever point you like is your own choice. Doesn't hurt anything or anyone. Owner's preference.

 

It was bluemoon. I called him and actually talked to him. He had bought a large stash that had been shipped there way back when. But they really are the real deal. After seeing the one in person, I even decided to buy another as a backup, just in case. If I never need it, it will be worth more than I paid in the future.
