63 Cj5 Herms Power Steering Conversion W/ Novak Headers

    My fault... remembered it backwards...but I still think most here have gone saggy swap instead of Ford reverse box.

    I gave the Siginaw swap some serious consideration. But I decided to go with the Herm conversion because I didn’t want to deal with making a custom front bumper for my Warn M8000 which I love. Plus I think it just looks a lot cleaner without the power steering gearbox sticking up in front of the grill. Also, I buy into Herms theory about the system being stronger closer to the steering shaft as as opposed to way out front. Something about frame flex. The only downside I’ve encountered so far is with headers. Well, and the hoses. But I think I’ve got that solved. I sold the Novak headers recently and I picked up a pair of AA outside the frame headers. Should make the conversion a whole lot more “Straight” forward. Just my humble opinion…

    Wasn't trying to say one is better than the other...more of a comment on why you might not be getting much feedback on herms set up...we have countless threads on saggy swaps, but very few on herms. Scott (buildflycrash) is one of the few who has done one recently.

    I made my own hose. Got some 4 or 6 AN hose and fittings, for high pressure, do not remember the size. Put fittings in, cut hose, took fittings off, put on hose, done.

    I had a hose for my hydraulic clutch made by some guys in CA. Did everything over the phone. Summit gave me the name. I don’t remember the name of the company, but just did a internet search and this name sounds familiar. Try Orme Brothers.
