Clutch Parts

My Jeep needs a new clutch and associated parts.

After pulling the transmission my throwout bearing come out in pieces, it was completely destroyed. In addition, the pilot bushing had chunks missing from both the front and rear of it. However, I have no idea what size parts I need for anything as neither the engine nor transmission are original. The engine is a 258 from a 75 jeep (according to the stamp on the engine block), and the t19 never came on a jeep.

Can I order a clutch and pressure plate for a 75 and have them work? I'm assuming the pilot busing from any year 258 would work as well.
I measured the transmission input shaft. It's a 10 spline. The shaft measures .66 at the end and 1.05 on the splines. This doesn't seem to correspond to any info that I can find on the t19 at all, so I'm not sure what to order for a throwout bearing.

Sorry for the elementary questions, this is my first time working with a car where none of the parts are original!

 

A T-19 is very similar to a T-18. I believe the spline count and input shaft diameters will be the same. I did not check, but I suggest that you check on the Novak site to confirm that they have the same splines and diameter. Jeep offered the T-18 with the 258, so you should be able to use those parts.

There are internal differences between the T-18 and T-19. Nickmil has discussed his before, and you should be able to find what he says by searching old posts. However, I think the clutch parts will be the same.

I would try to determine which bell housing you are using. The Ford input shaft sticks out about 6", and is compatible with the bell housing used with the T-150 3-speed ('76-79) and T-176 4-speed ('80-83). Omix sells this bell housing aftermarket, and I would expect a part number marking. I believe that's the same depth as the Jeep T-18 bell housing used '77-79. Though the Jeep T-18 will have a different pattern from the Ford T-19, I think the clutch parts will be ok. I am assuming you have a Ford T-19 - it would be good to identify the transmission you have. I would look for numbers stamped into the case, or any tags or other labels.

I'd say try parts from a '77-79 CJ with a T-18. Check with your FLAPS and see if they will order in some parts for you to compare at the counter. They should be willing to help a good customer, with the understanding of a sale when the right parts are located.

As Tim said, I order clutch kits for 77-79 cj. That said I always end up with the wrong pilot bushing size. It appears there are a few different sizes. Thankfully Richard at R&p4wd stocks both the larger and smaller size bushings (hopefully he still does anyway). Of course this is all assuming the t19 uses a jeep t18 clutch.
