I had a choke hooked up to My V6 but found it interfered with the normal operation of the choke under running conditions. (it appears the choke is supposed to move a bit when you stomp on the gas).

How do ya'll have your manual choke hooked up? Pictures and other education, advise is welcome.

    Thanks

I’ve got a v6 with a Rochester 2G carb. Choke is totally jury rigged, but works great. I improvised a lot and made many of my own parts because I couldn’t figure out exactly what OEM parts I needed to buy.

    - Cable thru firewall to custom linkage I made from sheet metal.
    - thin spring attached to cable forcing the choke knob to fully open at rest
    - brass rod going down from the custom linkage to the fast idle cam

the spring is forcing the brass rod down, which in turn causes the idle cam to want to stay in the slowest setting. I did this on purpose, as I was finding my idle to be inconsistent otherwise. To combat that, I have a small alligator clip that I clamp around the shaft of the choke knob which keeps the knob from sliding in until the engine is warmed up, and keeps the engine partially choked and the idle cam on one of the middle steps.

again this is a total improvisation, but the engine starts immediately when cold and the fact that it requires a few quick “tricks” to operate makes a great anti theft device.

I'd say! I see three cables, I'm thinking the top cable is the choke? then the throttle? Then the hand throttle on the bottom?

I had the not so perfect choke linkage on the passenger side. Do you have anything over there?

I'm not sure why the choke would move at all under any conditions? Of course I'm discounting the normal function of a choke.

Yes that’s correct. Small cable is the choke, thick cable is the throttle and the chain is the hand throttle.

I don’t have anything on the passenger side. Was your carb originally a 2GC with automatic choke on the passenger side? The 2GC has some levers on the passenger side, so maybe that’s why your manual choke cable was installed on the passenger side.

The choke should unload some to admit more air when you open the throttle. Works differently on different carburetors.

Since he said "stomp on the gas" I assumed he meant already warmed up but maybe he didn't. :)

  8. mine (carter YF) has a linkage between the throttle and choke.

I did mean when already warmed up. With my old connection the engine would run poorly when I got on it. much better without the choke cable connected. It was definitely having negative effect.

Here's another pic of that aluminum spacer on the 2G Rochester carb. I had to use it to clear the cable because I am using a later oil bath. The correct oil bath for my 1966 would have a notch on the bottom to clear the choke cable.

  12. You said you got yours on eBay. I must not be wording it right. What did you end up searching?

    Should be good, mine’s 1 1/2” and there’s 1/2” clearance still
