File cabinets make great storage for power hand tools and the like. Cheap to pick up used and designed to hold a lot of weight.

I use file cabinets for larger tools like orbital sanders and grinders. I use old card catalog style files for nut and bolt organization. Slide film steel cabinets make excellent drill bit organization. For my small parts I use a Vidmar cabinet. If I could afford all Vidmar, that's all I would use. Buy once and last several lifetimes of abuse.

I have 4 top/bottom roller toolboxes, all craftsman form the 70's and 80s. I like them because they are kinda nostalgic, but I hate them because they are not the snap on knockoffs that HF/general is.

All my storage either came from C/L, the dump or Marylands Terrapin Trader where they sell the University Of Marylands surplused material. I have 2 Snap On small road boxes I got from the dump from the early 70s. I have maybe 400 bucks invested for all of it.

  10. we had multiple cats, but they didn't use their litter box, so guess what we used for shop floor cleanup.

That's my plan for under-the bench power tool storage once we get the walls insulated and the bench permanently in place.

And repair manuals-books, maintenance records ect. I have 2 of them to keep a supply of new filters, oil, and repair parts like brake pads and extra belts for all my vehicles.
