Warn Wo-1 Lock-o-matic Parts

    Hello,
A CJ5 I just purchased came with a set of Warn Lock-o-Matic hubs. They are currently set in the "unlocked" position and they are stuck there. This Jeep hasn't been driven in at least 20 years so I'm hoping I can get them free with some penetrating oil.
Does anyone supply parts for these anymore? I can't find much searching about them except for some old factory literature. I'm not sure if I will need anything but looking at the diagram it appears there may be some wear items.
    Thanks,
    Ken

No parts. You can make gaskets. Seems like you are condemning them based only on speculation. Suggest you take them apart, clean out all the old grease, and see if they work. If they are not broken that's probably what they need. Penetrating oil applied to the outside won't be effective.

The Lock o matics work best in the "free" position. They freewheel in 2WD and automatically engage as soon as the front driveshaft supplies power to the front axle.
There is a thin triangular 0-ring behind the brass dial that tends to "stick" the dial and keep it from turning due to lack of lube. You might get them turning by getting penetrating oil between the brass dial and alloy body.
If you remove them for another vehicle, be sure to get the drag-nut off the axle spindle as they must have this to operate. You need a tiny allen wrench (5/64?) to remove the setscrew so you can unthread the drag-nut (outer locknut with no wrench flats). There are two spanner holes 180 degrees apart, and the allen setscrew is the 3rd hole in the side of the drag-nut.
Lock o Matics are my favorite hub, but parts are scarce. The only part that really wears are the gray plastic friction clutches that ride on the drag-nuts., and the spring that retains the friction clutches when someone stretches them too far.

You might try warming them up with a heat gun to get them to move Ken, then soak them with Kroil. Good Luck I like mine.

What does he say that you feel he is condeming them?

Well, he's implying they don't work because they are stuck. I wonder what he has done other than spray penetrating oil on the outside. If the dial did not turn, the first thing I would do is take them apart and clean them.

Thanks for the replies. I have not yet had an opportunity to take a close look at these hubs. Hopefully as stated they will only need cleaning and lubrication to get them working again.

I agree, 20 years of sitting I would not be surprised they don't work.

I've rebuilt two sets of these now. There are two common issues I've observed and read about. One is that people use a chisel or screwdriver with a hammer to remove the smooth friction nut. The other other is that people pack the hub with grease, which is a no-no. I agree with the others, take them apart and clean them out. Hopefully they're in decent shape inside and just need some fresh lube.
