There's no way that could happen with the 2G carb, the needle and seat is above the fuel level.

Had to crank the L head on the 52 way too long. Purchased the stock fuel primer made for the L head. Three squirts and it fires right up every time. No worry about an electric pump going out. Pump was actually made and wrapped up in March of 52. Jeep delivered in June of 52[IMG]

Well a section of clear fuel line from pump to filter and filter to carb will let me see whats happening. Will post back what I see once its on.

The M38A1 F-head has a fuel pump with a manual priming lever.

I wouldn't be without mine. Both the 5 and my active 2A have them.

I have a 85 3.8 (231) I intend to install in my CJ5. I already knew I needed a pre 1982 carburetor, but didn't realize I may also need a different distributor, but that makes sense.

What I am confused about is the mention of the cam and compression changes. Can anyone elaborate on that?

When I rebuilt my engine (4.3) I changed the camshaft and pistons for a little more pep.
That required some fuel and timing adjustment. Distributor got different weights and springs. Quadrajet needed different needles.

If it is a change of just the induction system than it is much easier.

That is a relief, I just wanted to be sure I didn't need a new cam for some reason I couldn't figure out.

So, I should be good with the earlier model Rochester and an earlier HEI distributor.

Just as an FYI. I misspoke earlier. The eccentric for the fuel pump is NOT part of the cam. It's a separate piece that bolts to the nose of the cam behind the timing cover. FYI. I found my worn out one in my junk box.
