We gave my Jeep buddy, (son), his first tool box.
Craftsman 5 drawer cabinet. This morning I realized that there is really a mess of tool storage.

Between my 45 yr collection, late brother's 45 yr collection, and my son's, there is 15 ft of boxes that are in place. I need a bigger garage.

I have so many mismatched old rolling tool boxes. Its kind of annoying. Some are old as me, craftsman etc.. I often think about just getting 2 of the real big bottom HF roll cabs..I would probably do it if I could find someone to take away these old boxes for free..... But I know not a soul around here who would use one, let alone like 5.

Hard to bug out with those massive boxes. Not that bugging out with 5 smaller boxes is an easy task.

I like my old, smaller boxes from the 80's. Some even have those schnazzy roller bearing drawers which are super nice. I guess I'm okay with the 3 roller boxes and a side box I'm using even though there are still some unhoused tools strewn about. Just can't bring myself to buy a huge box for 1000-4000 bucks. I stay with the used craftsman boxes on craigslist for 100-300 bucks. I don't make my living turning wrenches and opening those drawers 50 times a day so, I can't justify that kind of money.

If I did though, the Mac brand Macsimizer (sp) would probably be my choice.

HF boxes seem well built but I don't like the drawer layout.

I've thought about new boxes. I like the HF ones. My old boxes (most of them) don't have bearing slides and the drawers keep having issues. My hammer drawer gets very difficult to pull out. But even that makes it difficult to pull the trigger on a spendy new box. I keep looking at marketplace and hopefully I'll find something.

Of course I could get rid of some tools. Do I really need 75 different screwdrivers, many of which are cheap, no name crap?

I need to do some re-figuring as well. I actually have more storage than I need.

With the in-house workshop now housing most of my common tools, I can put the Craftsman roller out in the garage. I also got some vintage file cabinets from work that are great for power tools etc - but they aren't even full.

I didn't know this could ever happen. Then again, when you lived in an RV, I'd assume a little space is a lot of space.

We full timed in an RV for 12 years. I wanted to do a lot of projects, but if it couldn't be done on a tailgate or picnic table with basic hand tools, it didn't get done.

It is particularly annoying that I have to keep a full set of Metric, in addition to regular SAE tools.

For years my tool boxes both got progressively larger. It got so I'd never move them. Finally after walking quite a bit one day I started having a couple big boxes, one for general tools and another for very specific tools (vacuum gauges, compression testers, ring scrapers, and the like) and then a few smaller roll cabs for vehicle-specific work "The Jeep box" actually handles most older American car/truck work pretty well.

For years my workspace was metric-tool free. Luckily the import vehicles I've bought since have very small tool requirements so I've just kitted up vehicle-specific sets, one for the Saabs and one for the Datsuns, and keep them far away from my regular tools. :)

I went a long time with a metal toolbox it had screwdrivers and the breaker bar in the top. sae sockets and wrenches in the first drawer. Electrical multimeter and inspection sort of stuff in the 2nd drawer. I had two metric wrenches as shown above small and large.

I've picked up a tool wrap. three plastic boxes and my wife got me a jerry can toolbox one Christmas. Then my mom and sister got me a smaller rolling cabinet with top box.

I have a lot of places to hide new parts And a lot of places to look for my screwdriver.

I've got a tool cart of sorts. I load it up with what I need for a project off my walls and shelves then return them off the cart when done. Helps cut down on walking back and forth a thousand times for one job.
