    I have a 1974 CJ with a 4.2
The parts book shows ( 5.123-2) KIMG0324[1].jpg KIMG0325[1].jpg part# 317 8359 washers on the clutch fork pins that hold the throwout bearing. Where can I find these washers? Are they really necessary?

The book only shows one, so I suspect it's a spring washer that keeps the sleeve from rattling on the fork. Or perhaps it adds a little friction to keep the sleeve from turning on the fork. No "official" source that I know of, probably because it does not make any difference if left out. You could too, or look to see if other applications like Chevy use these, and try that part. Or look at McMaster-Carr for a suitable replacement.

    nickmil In mothballs.

Never see an AMC release arm with it yet and doesn’t seem to affect operation. I agree with Timgr, most likely to reduce rattles. I’m guessing they fall off during clutch replacement and never get noticed they are missing.
