I agree. My comment was a serious question but was also a bit cynical because a lot of comments are made about how much better a dual master cylinder set up is but in reality I seriously do not follow this logic. I believe it only provides a false sense of security. I've had the m/c in my F250 fail without noticing any difference in braking. Drove to work in the morning and the brakes were fine, got in it to leave at night and no brakes whatsoever.

I had rear brakelines fail in our '02 Chevy truck. We lost 100% of braking. I had to use the parking brake to get it to the shop.

Must have been scary to say the least.

Might have not been the brightest idea, but the route was all residential/slow speed, and I was too cheap to pay for a tow truck.

I'm following y'all who think its the MC. There is hardly anything else that it could be. Roy posted a kind of test that I can do. I'll take a better look at it tonight and see if there is something fairly obvious.

I assume you are also saying that you had no previous indication that your brakes were not as good as they should be?

IIRC we had one stop where rather than the pedal bottoming out as usual it went to the floor. And that one stop was in front of our RV in the campground.

I wouldn't want to take it onto trails with the chance the brakes are going to the floor unexpectedly and when I really don't want them to. Think of the switch backs on Black Bear Pass.
If need be, skip the last trip and be able to go again next year.

Do you mean 11" rear brakes? Just asking

Had old trucks in the 60s and 70s with juice brakes and had them fail on occasion, got so I would stand on them before leaving for test.... still have nightmares putting foot on brakes and feeling them slowly going to the floor....

I've had a few lines blow, with single masters. No disasters.

But that mostly was back in the time when "emergency" brakes actually were useful in an emergency.

You guys dont think it's the minor leak he stated he had? If liquid can get out, air can get in, right?

Is taking it to a shop too much of a chance due to the planned wheeling trip?

I was on a Barker Meadow/Rubicon clean up. The brakes were working great all day and then, pedal to the floor. I could get them to come back up by pumping. I looked all over the place trying to find a leak. When I got home it took a while but I found the leak at the front brake line going to the MC. The reason it took so long was the leak would only occur when the frame was flexed stretching the line. I changed the brake line fixing the leak and never had another problem. I ended up replacing both lines from the MC to the distribution block with rubber lines instead of hard lines and they lasted as long as I owned it.

If it was air in the line I'd think the intermittent issue would show more regularly. I drove the Jeep to work and to lunch today and not one soft brake incident.

How long is the driving time to work?
