The finger nail polish is how I mark a fastener to show it is torqued and ready for the road. GM and other manufacturers did similar. The color is due to the Grand daughters having that color they were willing to give away.

A poster on another forum I belong to, a plumber, said he always pre crushed the Ferrell
On the tubbing with an old fitting, before final assembly.
    I thought great idea!
Mine didn't bite. But felt like to the point of striped threads.
    I'll never again use poly!
Almost got it ready to start again. By weekend hope.

I thought the ferrule went inside poly tube?

Yeah, that oil line kit is a little pricey, but that is really cheap insurance. The cost of that line is less than 5% of the cost of rebuilding a engine. Don't ask me how I know. I am ordering one for my jeep and I have a copper line on it now.

I have mechanical fuel pressure gauge on my A pillar on my truck. I run a braided SS tubing and don't run a isolator. I'm not sure what the difference would be between antifreeze or a diesel leak in the cab. Fuel comes all the way to the A pillar to the gauge. I do have an snubber to prevent full flow. Never had a problem in 19 years...

Funny, I did something similar on my Nissan; an Autometer UltraLite Mechanical Oil Pressure gauge on my A-pillar with the Autometer supplied poly tubing and fittings. Installed in 2001 (19 years ago!) and still working today. I was nervous for a moment after installing and bleeding it just because if it failed numerous bad things could happen but it has proven reliable now for all these years.

I think the PO realizes that the issue is with the cheap knock-off parts that came with the gauge. I think we have all been there in some way or another; my wife still questions my desire to get "the good stuff" for whatever the project may be. The cheap stuff never pays off.

The Ferrell goes inside the nut, around the tube, then as tighting up it taper shrinks around th e tube, bites in and seals (most times). Fairly std practice w ith plumbing copper water line.
Flare is much better cha nice of seal. But compression is easy for homeowners, (No flairf tool needed, or knowledge on how to use).
I'm lucky, no bad damage on a China experiment . The gauges look and perform well, but the feed line and tiny wire is junk!
My new bosch(from summit) gauge set looks almost identical to China set, but fittings look more better it was round 50$.
For all u folks, under 60, u have no idea how well quality of parts used to be, in 70s, a nd 80s, Never got shabby parts.

Yes. I wasn't being clear. Sorry.

What I mean to say is that there can be a support tube used inside end of the poly, to prevent it collapsing or slipping. The ferrule is indeed the outer part.

Copper tube needs no inner support.

And you really missed out if you never went to a Jeep dealer that was around when our when our early CJ's were new. :) One here was around when the 2A came out, finally closed up when he died in the mid '80s.
