Jump Start Battery Pack

I bought a Jump start battery pack last fall before our Big Bend Ranch State Park (not to be confused with the National Park) trip. The one I bought is DB Power, but there are many others. I got it from Amazon. I don't recall having to use it on the trip, other than to charge electronic devices. However in late December 2019 one of my our good friend's Nissan Maxima wouldn't start at the local Target. It was drizzling outside. I grabbed my jumper cables and the jump pack and off we went. I tried the jump start first as it was the easier option. The car started right up! This thing is so small you wouldn't think it would have enough power to start much of anything.
Fast forward to now. My Jeepster has been sitting for awhile and the battery doesn't have enough juice left to start it. I couldn't find the jump start so asked my wife and she reminded me that we had used it back in December to start Belinda's car. So I looked in my JK and it was behind and partially under the driver's seat. I took it inside to recharge it. When I checked the status I was shocked! After spending 7 months in the Jeep in all kinds of temperatures it still had 84% of its charge remaining! Plenty enough to start several more cars. I'm pretty convinced you could leave it in your vehicle for a year and it would still be able to start your ride. It came with an assortment of adapters to charge all kinds of electronic devices. It also has a flashlight and a cheesy little compass built in. It's really small and comes with a case. Highly recommended. (y)

Edit: Doh! I forgot to add the picture.

Got one off the Matco Truck years ago. Has come in hand so many times.
Last year, it wouldn't keep a charge. Ordered a replacement battery off Amazon. Presto, Like New!

    They are much smaller now.

    I highly recommend carrying one.

Ive got one at work. I got tired of trying to find the big jump pack the shop has. Depending on the size it will start up to a 3.0 diesel or about a 6.0 gas engine. I have started a cummins once but it was a one time thing. Havent been able to start another.

Usually i can start 2, maaaybe 3 times then have to recharge even if it shows 2 out of 4 bars.

Maybe this should be in tools so it doesn’t get trimmed. Someone may be looking for one down the line.

Are these things actual batteries, or capacitors?

Speaking of capacitors they actually do have a "jumper pack" that is a capacitor. You plug it into a weak battery and wait so many minutes and it builds up a charge from the low battery and then you get a fully charged capacitor.

I carry a lithium jumper myself. One of the lower cost ones that Amazon doesn't even sell anymore, but when it dies I may go up to a NOCO. I've got one of their chargers and have really liked it

That's like the one I got from the Matco tool man (only it says Matco). Got it on sale and it has paid for itself many times over.

I used one of those last year to jump start a jet ski of all things.

We were at the beach, and jet ski coasted up, with the rider hopping off to check a few things under the hood/seat cover. He walked up, in his lifejacket and board shorts and asked us if he could use my cell phone to call for a pickup, because the ski wouldn't start. I gave him my phone and walked up to my truck to get the jump pack, and walked back down to him. He said he knew it had fuel, but that the battery might be flat. I said, "will it stay started if I jump it?" He shrugged and said "lets give it a try". :)

Fired right up and he hopped on and b-lined it over to his side of the bay before it could quit again...lol.

I have a small one like the first post size. Got from Autozone for around $79. Have started a Cummins Diesel with it and a few cars. Easier than grabbing the jumper cables. Buddy with a fishing boat has one and uses it a lot. Boats are tough on batteries. Easy to recharge through usb cord.
