If have an Aussie locker in my front Dana 30 on my 71 model. I love it, it has made a lot of trails much easier and you don’t notice it on the street unless the hubs are locked in of course.
They are the same design and work similarly.
I have power steering and 3.73’s in mine.

I've got a Dana 30 , 27 spline , with 3.73 gears in the front. Put in the Lock Right last winter. Took 2 hrs , start to finish. Like Mike said above, it works great on the trails ; sand , gravel, hills & rocks & worked fine on some snow & iced roads. Takes a little getting used too, on the snowy roads. You have to watch your speed , particularly in the turns . You'll now have 2 wheels ' Pulling ' you & two wheels 'Pushing' you .
It makes your Jeep true 4WD & that's what I wanted. I can now go anywhere. Imho, it's just what your look'n for. Or the Aussie.

No complaints once I installed power steering (dana27, 5.38, 33” tire)

Many of the 4WD shops my way advise installing the Spartan unit. I was going to go this way until I came across a series 4 power lock which, IMO, is one of the strongest units made without going to a ARB style units.

Same setup here. Ran a little bit of road between trails a couple weeks ago. Jeep didn’t like the hard turn back onto the trail.

Spartans front and rear in the MB-5. Night and day difference and yes my rear does clank in sharp turns.

I'm running a mini spool in the rear and may go to two of these instead. the spool seems to push me around a little on road at speed. I'm wondering if this might be most of my wierd steering quirks.

I had a Lock Rite in my D27 and Detroit rear. With power steering I could barley tell the Lock Rite was there. Occasionally it would pull a little but not terribly.

I know mine is an intermediate, but, I have a Dana 30 front axle, 3.73 and a Lock-rite. it worked great for about 8 or 9000 miles, then it stopped disengaging. While working, the characteristics listed above were evident.
Now it is basically locked solid, it occasionally bangs and unlocks while in reverse, but not often.

Since most of my 4 wheeling is in sand, a fully locked front axle is fine.

Spoils in the rear for sure cause steering quirks.

Personally, I think a rear spool is more predictable than a locker. There’s no lock/unlock issue. It’s always locked. If you want it to steer tighter, just take the turn faster to shift weight off the inside tire. :sneak:

I’ve been running a Lock-Rite front and rear in the ‘59-5 for a very long time. Invisible in front with the front hubs unlocked or when in 2wd. The only issue I’ve ever had is it can push in the right slick circumstances, but some throttle control helps with that.

Lockrights in both since 2003, 5.38s ross box. Now have new kingpin bearings, new 32-11.50 -15s on 11psi. Can be a bear to take a tight turn on a narrow trail, but it's a point and click jeep offroad.

Lockright has affected road manners but the slight pop and swerve when it unloads is easy to manage with 75hp
